I don’t recall the details but I do remember the mystery being solved.My 18 Expedition looks great yet, but my wifes uncle owns a local body shop and he said he sees many aluminum doors coming in with the seams swollen from oxidation. I had him coat all the inner body panels, inner doors, etc with a rust proofing oil to help slow this process. It coats the metal in oil so its not as easy for the corrosion to start.
The Aluminum is too new to really know the full effects of salt over a long time.

I guess I'm from Missouri. I never believed that stamping used for steel theory. IMHO that's another urban legend that's repeated over and over again so pretty soon everybody believes it's true because they have heard it so many times. Kind of like MSM. I have a bunch of pitting in the chrome on the tailgate. Completely unacceptable. 2018 max
From my 2 current Expys ... the paint bubbling on the aluminum hood and tailgate seem to all be at terminations or where the metal is folded over (front of hood for example). My theory (amateur hour) is that the metal and paint expand & contract at different rates, paint micro cracks at the stress point, and water can intrude. Then moisture is trapped between the two materials for an extended period and can react chemically forming aluminum oxide, which is a white powder. If you pick a paint bubble off ... If you plan on keeping one long-term you should take it and get it and see barded early on or under hood at yourself. People want to complain about undercoating causing problems but if you get to it when it's fresh without any rust and do it when it's good and dry out so there's no moisture underneath it it will help prevent that service rust. Or you can use products Krown or Corrosion Free. I'm getting ready to order either 2 gallons or 5 gallons of corrosion free and coat a couple of really clean low mile older vehicles that I don't want to start to rust.No body rust on my 19 but I was seriously disappointed at the amount of surface rust under it. Frame rails, muffler, driveshaft, front end components... all had various amounts of rust. For 6000 miles, I thought it was unacceptable for a 67k truck.

What was the process you went through to prep? Did you exhaust also? Ive heard good things about por15 so I guess that'd my direction im goingAll my underside is painted but the drivelines and axles. I was pretty surprised. I usually paint everything with POR15. Super good stuff. Paint it on with a brush and it self levels. It’s does not have UV protection, but under the body I have had zero trouble with it loosing its color. They do make a UV coating for it.
