2005 expedition 5.4. 204k.
Had new phasers about 30k ago.

Got a code, pulled into gas station and read it with my scanner. Had 2 stored and 2 pending, p0345 and 349.
Left there and went to store to buy new CPS. decided they were cheap enough and got 2.

Driving back, maybe 20 miles out, hear a tick like the phaser knock, then check gauges comes on, and no oil psi.

Pull it over, knocking like hell.

No leaks. No smoke... got it towed home, fired right up, silent.... swapped the CPS on drivers side, all good for about 4 miles. Knocks like hell and gauge pops. Tried unplugging VCT. No change.

Bought a kit. 2 new vct, 2 new phasers, full timing kit, gaskets, etc etc.

Did the solenoids because it's a 5 minute fix.

No change.

Not really looking to get into front of the motor if I dont have to.

Any other hair brained ideas, or "typical Triton" lore I should know before parking this thing and spending the next few testing apart?

2 things come to mind. 1, your oil pumps going out, and 2, the gaskets behind the cam phasers are bad. That is a common issue with 2005-2007 Expeditions. One of our regular members had that problem awhile back. What brand phasers and vvt solenoids are you using? Anything but Ford your playing with fire. Most of the aftermarkets ones just dont work or don't last.

Its definitely a knock off brand vct.

I do have a new oil pump, again a knock off.

Would a bad vct/ phaser issue cause the cam codes? Crazy to think it loses that much oil pressure to drop the gauge to 0.

I went to parts store last night and found the kit I bought doesn't seem to be great quality.

I'm going to sell the truck, and I dont want to hose the next guy, but by the same token I dont want to dump a grand into it just to sell it for 3k.

Food for thought... I appreciate it.

You've got a conscious, that's admirable, but your also a man on a budget. If you don't want to see your buyer eye to eye, take a little loss, and trade it in, or let someone else sell it for you. What you don't see won't hurt you. If it takes a dump on the dealer or lot that sells it, that's their problem. Sometimes it's like breaking up with an old girlfriend, you just don't look back!
