Damn 2003!! Here we go again!

Just got done doing my timing chains, tensioners, etc a week ago... bottom end started knocking 3 days ago. Gonna replace the engine starting tomorrow! Found a good used engine with a 6 month warranty for $750.00. This this ****** me off!

did you pull the oil sending unit out and attach a oil pressure gauge to and check the oil pressure hot before you did the timing chain work?

Swap in the new set of timing chains while it is out. Remember Murphys Law....

I did a pressure text prior to doing the job, and it was good. No idea why the issues. Oh well...

Motor is out and swapping over my "new" parts from the old engine to the new one: Water pump, power steering pump, and idler pully's(all of them are less than a 2 weeks old) and my coil packs I installed this last summer. I got new Iridium plugs, and belt too. I think I will probably do the timing chains/tensioners/guides while it is out and much easier(I got a 2nd set for free for some reason from Rock Auto somehow?). Hopefully get all that crap put back in the motor tomorrow and get the engine reinstalled Friday.

Good thing I am self employed, and dont have to work if I dont want to, and can get this POS done!

Ah man that sucks! You did everything right, tested oil pressure, replaced parts that were bad. your oil pump failed, and torched your bottom end bearings. It's possible the teardown and replacement of everything made your oil pump take a dump! Who knows why a good part fails, it just happens. Sorry to hear the bad news. We're all rooting for you! Let us know how the new motor turns out.

All done, motor is smooth as silk! Perfect... now I have another sound. Not kidding either... is there a chain or something in the Transfer case? Sounds like there is something rattling inside it. I checked the fluid, its good... not sure what it is??

Wow, thought I was the only one that has these unrelated issues on machines. You r&r'd in a motor, now you've got a transfer case issue! You had to disrupt something in the case during disassembly/assembly, or you have a poltergeist! Let us know what's up, I've been keeping a journal for the last 30 years, you can't make this stuff up!

I have no idea what it is? It sounds like a chain noise coming from it now, but there isnt a chain in it as far as I know, so what could it be? I might drive it till it quits running, then I will know what it is!

John looks like your transfer case is chain drive. It's possible your chain stretched to a point where like a timing chain is smacking the case. Either way I'd pull it apart, you don't want it to go real bad at the worst time! Your luck like mine, hasn't been the best lately!

Quick question, when you had the engine apart, did you happen to notice if your timing chain tensioners were metal or plastic?

I have an 03 navigator thats low on compression on number 6, and when i start it up, im getting timing chain slapping. When im going through the engine im going to replace them but im not sure if they offered the metal ones for the 03 or not.

Ive used the iron ones a bunch on the older 2v engines, but i havent had one of the 32v or the 3v per cylinder engines open in a long time.

My original engine, they are/were plastic. I found out through research that after 2000 that all of them were plastic.
