hey guys im new in this forum, i have this problem last night my battery died and this morning the truck was wanting to start so i jump start it. when i got out of work my remote control wasnt doing its job putting the alarm on/off unlocking/locking, so i jump start it again and i notice when i take out the key the miles, airbag, battery light were on even without the key in and thats what drained the battery it does power jump tought and the remote control doesnt work i change the battery but nothing. i had that problem before but it was the battey that didnt work on the remote control. do you guys think the remote control is not good no more? if the remote control isnt working would the truck not start? its a ford expedition 01 xlt. thanks in advance

It sounds to me like you may need a new ignition switch. If the air bag light and the milage is still showing after the key is off and out then the switch is not going to the full OFF AND LOCK position. If the ignition is still on then the remote will not work because it is disabled by the computer when the ignition is on.

One thing to try is make sure that you turn the key all the way to the lock position. Sometimes when the keys wear down you can remove it with the ignition on ( not in the lock position) (with the truck running try to pull the key out ) if the key comes out have the dealer cut a new key from the VIN number to see if it is just the worn key ( this will most likely fix your problem). If the key does not come out then you will most likely need a new ignition switch.
