Hi gang. I’m a big fan if daytime running lights. I have the upgraded instrument panel on my ‘08 and I’ve looked in every menu I could find to turn them on but I can’t find a way to activate them. I am beginning to think that my Expy doesn’t have them for some reason. Does anyone know if the ‘08’s came from the factory with DRL and how to turn them on? Or can they be added?

Thanks!!

Should be using your forward blinkers, use switchback projector LEDs if you want any manner of brightness from it

No DRLs for 97’-19’ Expeditions (never ever lol). Forscan can activate fogs on some newer ones to use as such. I’ve never been a fan of DRLs.

Thanks everybody. What is forscan?

Computer program that lets your laptop wifi / bluetooth / plug into your OBDii port and access certain dealership scantool computer features

Or.... if you have stock halogen headlights, use those, they're about a DRLish level of puny anyway

Automatically, regardless of switch settings?

Any chance your vehicle was originally sold in or destined for Canada or Mexico or something? Any obvious indications previous owner liked to mod his stuff?

I have the same $45 Daytime Running Lamp option on my 2008.
Regularly see 07+ with DRLs and I am nowhere near Canada.

Just ask your dealer to turn them on at your next oil change / tire rotation

It was a fleet vehicle sold on the East Coast

If dealer can do it, why can't I?
Because the dealer does it with IDS which is a program that allows them to edit programming of the vehicle.

Again, it can be done with Forscan and you CAN do it yourself

Vehicles sold to fleet customers (optionally) or in Canada (required) after a certain year have DRLs.

My 2016 has them.

My 2017 had DRL enabled to the low beams as reduced voltage. Swapped system to HID Projection and used Forscan to change to use LED Fog Lights as DRL's.

I have a '12, and didn't have DRL's active until my last service where my dealer decided to enable them for some reason. FWIW I'm in Calif. I didn't notice as it was evening and until a few days later. Now I of course can't disable them easily myself. Arrgh.

Yesterday I disabled the DRL (lowbeam with parking lamps) on my '07 Expy with Forscan. It's very easy an takes only 2 minutes.
In the future I will activate them again, but with parking lamps only.
For this I have to find the code in Forscan.

I bought a used 2017 XLT EL a few months ago. It has DRL. As soon as I take the trans out of park. The headlights turn on. Even if the switch is in the off position. There is no option in the menu on the dash to turn them off unless I go through Forscan. Disabling them is on my to do list.

From what I read online. Fleet/rental Expeditions had DRL from Ford with no option through the dash menu to disable them.

I found not having DRLs on my '17 Expedition an inexcusable omission by Ford. These are a safety feature with no negatives. Forscan set my LED fog lights as DRLs. They go off when the headlights come on after dark unless I have the headlight switch set for fogs as well. I leave the headlight switch in Auto in all my cars with that feature. On the Expedition the headlights come on automatically when it gets dark or if I activate the windshield wipers.
