Just bought 2004 Eddie Bauer Expidition, only thing wrong is cruise quit working. Not a mechanic but know a few, they said deactivation switch tends to go bad. Ok, researching it and problems tend to agree. Problem most vids and diagrams show it on the master, I/we do not see it there. Question is where is the deactivation switch located on 2004 5.4L?

Horrors stories about cam phasers and cost, but some forums suggested replacing VCT sensors. not really a tick until you acclelerate. No tick at idle, no tick driving down the road. Just looking for thoughts on subject.

Welcome to the Forum

Lets deal with #2 first Your 04 expy doesn't have any problem with cam phasers and it never will. That problem is with a 3V engine and you have a 2V engine.

Now #1 The problem may be the switches need to be cleaned Although it could be a problem with either the Brake Pedal Position Switch or the deactivation switch They are mounted very close together If you look under the dash on the brake pedal lever you will see the BPPS the Deactivation switch is right next to it.

Before you go and throw parts at your problem You should do some troubleshooting on the circuit.

I am sending you a PM check your in box

There is a excellent video on how to clean the steering wheel switches on the site. It's called steering wheel/cruse button fix. Check it out.
