Hi,
My 99 4.6L XLT sometimes has some problems with kicking/jerking/sliping. When it does, of the start it feels like the tranny is slipping or something and it continously jerks (small quick jerks, doesn't feel like power is being lost) until 20mph or so. And sometimes on the slow down near stop it'll feel like dropping a clutch. It'll jerk hard forward.

Then I could drive it for am while and it'll go away. Sometimes for a long time. Turns ussually bring it out, but not as serve as the odd times it acts up in any direction.

Any Ideas? No related codes, tranny fluid is up and clean looking. Although I didn't look very closely but it looked like it may of been a tad high. Could that cause problems with the torque converter?

I think I read somewhere that if your liquid is too high your transmission may slip.

BTW, I used some Lucas transmission fix, and it fixed that shudder that happened when making turns. But now, I think the fluid reads high. I don't know; all I know it it's fixed :)

I would suspect a tune up issue. A lot of times people think the trans is acting up in this situation when it is really an ignition miss.

I have a performance tuner that I recently tuned back to stock to be ready for the headers and exhaust thats going on it at a mechanic. It's done it always, but not as severe as recently. I'll try loading it back on and seeing what happens. Only thing is it was doing it somewhat when it was on a performance tune and the tach doesn't seem to vary when it slips.

Otherwise where would I get a tune other than the tuner I have?

Although how would that explain the kick during slow down? It almost feels like you can feel the wind up then clunk. That happens a lot less.

Thanks for your responses, its appreciated. I hate the feeling of having a vehicle who's condition I doubt, I just want to get it fixed.

well quick jerks during acceleration are usually ignition misses. if it is doing it on decel it could very well be something in the transmission binding up.

Hey I saw something on the news a while back about them crushing "modified for racing" cars and it was up to the officers' descretion to make that decision. Is that in your area? If so how do they determine that the car is for "racing".....LOL

Well I haven't heard that but there are a lot of cars here that are modified that way for lack of a better word. For instance there was one little civic at my employer's local mechanic that needed about $15,000 in work done to it because it was modified to the point of not being road legal. Most if not all of which was for racing (typical 4 banger fart can car). Suspension was a big thing that was being changed he said.

Never heard of crushing them, some of them are so ugly they need a good crushing though.

I don't get any jerking during the same RPM but in a different gear/ at a different speed.

Good. Some of the guys here to to stupid to control their cars right. Just recently 3 street racers were racing up the major northbound highway here and cut off a big rig and slung it into the ditch killing the driver. They were caught too.

Don't get me wrong I like going fast but some of these guys just weave way to much expecting everyone else to yeild to them.
