Head and nut are both 30mm . Use a deep socket or 6pt box wrench on the nut and 6pt on the bolt head.

Torque spec is 295 ft lbs .

I'm sorry. The 332 ft lbs is for the rear shock bolt. The fronts are 295 ft lbs. I couldn't believe it myself so I went back and double checked the manual this morning. It's still a torque that'll take some muscle or leverage.

I'd never until now heard of a 18 point socket. 295 ft lbs will require a 3/4 drive torque wrench with either a 3/4 drive socket, or 3/4 to 1/2 inch socket adapter. You could fake it, and use a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar, and a cheater pipe, and really bear down on it. Most 1/2 inch torque wrenches only go to 150-200 pounds.

Long pipe will work... that is what I did. Also during re install, blue loctite is a great idea.

Moose some structural bolts are 18 & 24 points, they're considered security measures cause they require a one off socket to remove, to buy those sockets you must have a valid perc card

the 18 and 24 point sockets are also called spline sockets.

I have a set. I used to work on German cars, they used them a lot

I was talking about the big sucker's 2-7/8 to 4" sockets, I've seen the 18 point bolts on VW's brake calipers but those are usually 12 or 14mm... miniatures compared to the strut tower but size

And I thought British whitworth wrenches were a pain. Always something new to buy, for the toolbox.

thanks for all of the help. it took longer to jack the car up and take the wheel off than to change the struts.

best 125 bucks I have spent on the car yet. always pay the extra $50 for lifetime alignments.
