Okay this is a question for all of you with newer Expeditions that have the capless fuel filler neck. My daughter and son both have newer Fords a 2016 Fusion and a 2014 Flex with that capless fuel filler. I noticed that their vehicles have a plastic piece that surrounds the fuel filler neck. The piece says Easy Fuel on it and some mention of the type of fuel to use or avoid.

I noticed that my 2017 doesn't have that plastic piece and it kind of looks unfinished. I was wondering if your Expeditions had it. I know it's a minor point but I'm just curious.

This picture is from the Ford website but shows what I'm talking about:

It either got left off, knocked off or maybe Ford stopped putting them on. They're superfluous junk and just snap in place. If it's important then get a replacement from a dealer, otherwise get a locking plug. I use the plug on all three of my newer Fords (2015, 2014 and 2013) to keep crap (dust, dirt, whatever) out of the cavity.

That's what I'm trying to find out. My son got the locking cap for his Flex but I like the convenience of not having to bother taking off the cap.

My 17 doesn't have the plastic "easy fuel" thing from your picture.

I don't like not having a gas cap. I've had my EL for 6 months now and still to this day when I stop to get gas and open the fuel door I reach for a cap to turn.

I think the spring on the door puts a lot of pressure on that gasket and it must seal pretty tight. I've heard of guys getting an error on the instrument cluster if the leave the fuel filler door open so the emmission controls system must monitor that.

I just checked mine and it does not look like the photos shown by Expedition Andy. Mine is a 2017 Limited bought about the same time as EAndy and it shows the "RTFM" icon but nothing else.

I had this cap-less fuel feature on my 2012 F-150 FX4 and drove many dusty roads with it. I liked the simplicity of it and never got dusty inside the door. It is a good feature that needs to be gotten used to.

If your assembly was missing any parts, you'd get a check engine light and an evaporative-fuel-something-or-other fault code if you scan via Bluetooth OBDii ******

Mine gave me a single stray code once that I attribute to an extreme temperature change overnight OR forgetting to close the door a few times. Fault code and light has stayed away so far after I cleared it... so that sensor is SENSITIVE.

My '16 Expedition looks like the one in the picture too. I also bought a Ford OEM locking cap the first day I picked up the truck.
