The question isn't how much power the engine is capable of making. The question is: how much power is the engine capable of making, reliably, over a period of many years.

You could tune the 3.5L to make 800hp. Sure. But I doubt you'd see it last more than 10k miles without any problems.

Ford is using the same 3.5L EcoBoost block in the Ford GT and have it cranking out 647 hp. Given that this is from the factory, I imagine that Ford engineers are extremely confident that this 600+ output is reliable.

I have a 2018 Expedition & a 2018 F150
Both have the Gen II 3.5LECOBOOST engines
Have the E30 & E50 calibrations for both of them
stock had 330 Wheel hp & 414 wheel torque
With E50 calibration 550 wheel hp & over 600 lb ft wheel torque
Completely stock vehicle except for calibration & E50 ethanol blend
Love it :burnout:
Here is a 5 star dyno chart showing what kind of power increase are possible with 100 Plus octane fuel

550 hp and 600tq are not just e50 and stock everything else. See below, they have mishimoto intercooler, s&b cai, spd turbo adapters and DPs and putting in new HPFP

Data I posted was completely stock truck except for calibration
Here is the data above the chart
NOW RELEASED! E30 & E50 TUNES FOR YOUR 2017-2019 F150 3.5L ECOBOOST!
Our e50 tune nets 553 horsepower on our 2018 F150 3.5L Ecoboost 4wd 150! This application is all stock with the exception of our tune file. We have the tune dialed in and have just released the new files!

Have it installed on both of my vehicles
Love it

I wonder if the Gen II's come with stronger head bolts? This along with crank insert bearings tended to fail in highly tuned earlier models.

How is that possible the stock plus tune makes 553 but the stock plus IC, adapters, CAI, and DP makes 560? Not adding up

Do you have a certified dyno graph specifically of your trucks? Showing these numbers with tune only? I’d like to compare your stock truck plus tune to the tune plus bolt ons

Doesn't it concern anyone performing these upgrades that the fuel system is only designed for E15 or less? All the fuel lines, hoses, injectors are not designed to handle anything above E15....

From personal experience I can tell you what happens when you put E fuel through lines that aren't rated for it....it turns the inside of those fuel lines to debris.....eats it alive

2018+ stock fuel (gen2 ecoboost engine) system can handle e50

2017 and below (gen 1 ecoboost Engine) can handle e30. 5 star is pushing this truck to its limits so upgrading the fuel system is just insurance.

Then why does my fuel tank cover say 15% and below only (2018 expedition)?

From the manual:
Do not use:
  • Diesel fuel.
  • Fuels containing kerosene or paraffin.
  • Fuel containing more than 15% ethanol or E85 fuel.
  • Fuels containing methanol.
  • Fuels containing metallic-based additives, including manganese-based compounds.
  • Fuels containing the octane booster additive, methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
  • Leaded fuel, using leaded fuel is prohibited by law.

Idk ask someone at 5 star. Plenty of 2018 3.5l F-150 guys running e50 on stock system
