We have a 2005 expedition eb. rebuilt the engine but the intake has these stupid secondary "butterfly" doors that open with a motor on the back of the intake. Now our problem is that the doors are wide open causing bad fuel economy and the engine loght to turn on. Also can we dissconnect the vac line from the back of intake to make it easer to put the intake back in.

The vac line on the back of the intake is a known issue with the 5.4L 3v. You can disconnect it to aid in reinstalling. Putting it back on is the hard part. Ford does have an updated assembly, though I'm not sure the cost of it.

The butterfly doors meter the air going into the engine at idle. If you can find a tuner they can reprogram the ecm to ignore them. Many of the mustang guys do this for increased throttle response. It's not a huge gain, but if yours aren't working or disconnected, that's one way to fix it.
