At Stop light last night car engine stalled abruptly. Attempted turnover and both starter and Alternator appears to be fine, had decent power, but starter sounded like it stuck and the engine would not fire. Plenty of gasoline and approx 58,000 miles in 2007 Expedition EL. Your expertise and thoughts on Fuel Injector? Timing Belt/Chain? Spark Plugs? Thanks.

Assuming motor is turning over fine but not firing first thing I would check is fuel pressure. Fuel pump may have died on you.

Starter sounds like it is sticking and engine will not turn over. Sounds stalled like out of gas even though the tank is half full. Still think it is a Fuel Pump?

If the motor just died while it was running and now it will not crank.. that to me sounds like the alternator may have quit and it ran until the battery could no longer supply the proper voltage. But this should have had many more symptoms such as dimming headlights and check engine light and you did not mention this.

How long did you try and crank it??? Could you have killed the battery cranking too long?? If the starter quit after prolonged period of cranking then yes fuel pump could still be bad. If the starter quit immediately after it stalled there is something else going on.

There is always the possibility the motor siezed up but I would think this would be very rare.

The Starter still works, just sounds like when you try and start the car without any gas in the tank.

Alternator appears to be fine. Any change one of the timing chains got messed up? I had literally filled the tank with gas about 7 miles before this transpired.

Headlights did not dim. When the engine stalled, the check engine light did come on.

Battery was replaced approx 7 days before and they checked the electrical at that time and indicated everything was fine.

Thanks again for spending some cycles on this. Much appreciated.

"Any chance timing chains got messed up" Doubtful.

Since you filled it up just prior to this there is the possibility you got some bad gas. If not I would still consider your fuel pump quit by your latest desciption.

How do I check that? Something I can un-trip?

In the back there is a door on the left side. The reset button is in there.

Is the gas station what you filled up at one that you have used a lot in the past?

The reset button is on the inside back quarter panel adjacent to where I put in gas on the outside?

The gas station I used was a new one. The thought crossed my mind about a batch of bad gas....how would I correct?

Yes. you have a switch behind the kick panel on the passenger side, around the same area as your air suspension switch. Thats where it's located on my 1999.

I found it in the back quarter panel and hit reset. Let the fuel line bleed in a bit and it did not turn over. Had the computer check to see if there were any codes....came up blank.

Am thinking I have a clogged injector or bad fuel pump. Any idea on cost to replace Fuel Pump in '07 Expedition - parts and labor?

Can you hear the pump running? Under the hood is a capped schrader valve on the fuel rail. With the key off relieve the pressure in the line there. If there is pressure gas will squirt (be prepared). After that when the key is turned to run you should hear the fuel pump in the tank run to pressurize the fuel rail.

Pump isn't running. Attempted to relieve pressure...no pressure. Fuel pump was not engaged.

Any idea on replacement part cost? Labor?

Just a fyi on gm dealers if fuel pump goes bad while under warranty they ask you if you have ever been below a quarter tank of gas. If you say yes, warranty voided. The gas is the only thing cooling your pump

not really dumb on their part that is like the number one reason for fuel pump failure. the fuel in the tank is what cools the pump and when you get below a quarter tank it starts getting hotter which leads to premature failure. its cheaper to keep more gas in the truck. your gonna drive it just as much anyways so you might as well keep more fuel in it unless you have the extra money to throw towards pumps.
