I just had my steering column replaced in my 01 expedition XLT, but when I try to start it the engine won't turn over and my dome lights stay on. I'm thinking that since I have a coded key that the system isn't accepting the signal from key from the replacment column. Would i need to replace that lock cylinder with my old one that fits my key or could it be something else? Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

If there is a problem with the coded key or PATS system the engine will turn over but not start. Since yours is not turning over it is safe to say you have an electrical problem.

Actually I was mistaken it will turn over but won't start. So does that mean there is a problem with coded key?

No, there is a transceiver around the key cylinder that picks up the coding from the key, crunches the data in the pats module and tells the pcm it is ok to start. A failure anywhere in this system will cause a no start condition. It usually will cause the theft light to flash quickly also. I would double check the connections or swap out the transceiver from the old column.

I swapped out the cylinders and now it starts with no problem. Now my interior dome lights will not shut off even with the doors shut. Could I just take out the bulbs so it wouldn't drain my battery, because now i have to keep unhooking my battery cable when I park it.

when you start the engine with the doors closed are you getting a door ajar light?
When it happens are the running board lights also staying on?
