Was at my mechanic today for an oil change and he noticed a bolt broken off flush on the exhaust manifold. He said it is more of a when not an if for the e.m. to crack or have bolts break off flush......first I heard of it but I trust this guy implicitly. Guess it's time to start putting a little extra away every month to help ease the pain when it needs replacing......

The studs are extremely common to break off. Find an exhaust shop, and they'll charge about 80-110 bucks to extract it and install a new one. If you or your guy wants to know how to do it, PM me. I can type it out but it takes a while so I don't want to do it unless you want the information. , its about $US500 a side (in MN) to replace all manifold studs at once. Salt really makes them bad and I notice you are from a snowy area like me.

As far as the manifold cracking, that happens too, but I don't think typically the cause is broken studs as much as poor casting from the factory.

It's a problem that multiple car companies have. Ive seen it on chevy and dodge too along with their associated companies.

Maybe because they know they all share the problem they don't fix it since fixing would require a more expensive bolt and analysis time reducing profit or increasing consumer price.
