i also have dual 40 series flowmasters. about calling you local parts stores...its not an off the shelf kit, it has to be custom bent at the muffler shop, and dont get a single in dual out muffler, get two single single in single out mufflers it sound so much better, and i know walnuts will back me up on that seeing as our exhausts are damn near identical (minus he dont have rear cats and mine exits on both sides) but soon my rears will also be gone...

I totally agree.... seems every day someone is posting wanting exhaust set up opinions..... Evryone is different and some like one type others like another and so on. Mine is straight piped after the factory cats with an echo tip.... cost about $30 and sounds amazing to me.

I am going to take this in a little bit different direction to help make sure that people don't screw up the motors in the way of killing power and mileage. Our trucks from the factorys have a single 2.25" pipe after the Y and you have 2.5" pipes from the collector to the Y. If you are looking to keep the low end torque that these motors have, you do not want to go over either a single 3" pipe or dual 2.5" pipes after the Y area. To go bigger will be great for your high RPM power, but will kill the low end torque. So, I ask, how often are you at 2,000 RPM trying to accelerate the truck vice at 4,000 driving at 100 mph? Remember, horsepower is for constant speed, torque is for changing speed. Going with smaller pipes will tend to help the low end torque, but it can also choke the engine and limit its power. So, this is a fine balance. Also, keep in mind that going with a less restrictive muffler (ie, a 40 series muffler over a 70 series muffler), this will also affect the final power. A dual 2.25" system with a 40 series muffler will flow roughly as freely as a 2.5" system with a 70 series muffler. So, as you are seeing, there is no one "perfect" system out there.

Honestly, you can get the deeper tone that you are after with the stock system, you just have to change out the pipe between the muffler and the end of the tail pipe. The diameter of this pipe is what affects the sound. The diameter of the piping between the Y area and the muffler is what affects power. You want a deep tone, you go with a larger diameter pipe that is significant in length (ie, 18" or longer) and you can get the deep tone that you are after. You can relate this to blowing air across the top of a few bottles. The smaller bottles will have a higher pitch than the larger bottles.
