Check Gators too if you don't use 4L... can be same price or often cheaper

F150s look niiiice, but them used prices are brutal high... also, they got worse weight distribution, so it's not gonna be a better truck even optioned up to the gills

And insurance should surely pay you more than a grand. Tell em to stuff themselves if they try

I do have it fully insured with collision but I’m not expecting anything significant from the ins. Co. It’s a 2007, they will give me bottom dollar trade in maybe a grand or so.

Whao, who is your insurance carrier?

I've got State Farm & have had a few vehicle totaled over the years on both comp and collision claims. They gave me NADA clean retail - NOT trade. They even pro-rate taxes/tags paid for the year.

My agent has too many glass windows in his office to offer trade value.

Can anyone help me out here, Anyone go from a regular length to an EL?

What I’m particularly wondering is if you noticed an large acceleration difference besides just a bit on the 5.4L. Will I regret not having a short bus with 3.73s? Also is the Limited standard with HD tow?

I went from an 05 regular to a 17 EL... not apples to apples by any means with the 5.4 compared to the 3.5. My 17 would blow the doors off my 05. Both with the HD tow package and 3.73.

I drove an 06’ before and it kinda felt like a slug. Idk if it’s the trans or what in those.

Man!! Sorry to hear, but the Truck Did it’s job. Glad you are OK!

Big fan of the EL! 15(Totaled), now the 17. Love the space. Drove a regular length and EL when we were looking at the 15, no difference seat of the pants between the 2.

Good luck on your search!

I’m half between what to do. I’m going to check out the Limited EL which is only a few years newer than my 07’. I also may go check out a 15+, don’t know if I need that payment right now.

F-150s are also tempting, not sure the 5.0 would do it for me or not. Guess I should test drive.
My EL is great as my camper with a bed in the back and the extra storage space. However .... parking, K turns, U turns, etc can be a bit of a pain. There are times I wish my home away from home was shorter.

Aftermarket tow mirrors make all the difference. I struggled to park the Expedition EL when I first got it, which surprised me as I was coming from a much longer Super Duty that I could squeeze in anywhere. Swapped out the mirrors and the additional visibility made the truck easily maneuverable.

We totaled our 2013 Limited in 2017. They hit us so hard we were turned 180* into the ditch. They totaled her but my wife and I were okay. They are a beast. Glad you are okay. We turned around and bought a 2017 Limited. Not taking a chance.

Well tonight’s 2011 wasn’t the “one”, but I got to say I really like the EL. I think I’m going to shop mostly EL models, so much more cargo space with the 3rd row flipped up. Don’t get me wrong I like my standard length a lot but putting those seats down can be a pain.

Acceleration wasn’t hugely different but my truck def had more pep in its step. I forgot to check gear ratio could have been 3.31 vs my 3.73.

I test drove numerous 3rd gens before I picked up my EL and the difference is pretty noticeable if driving it hard - both in terms of acceleration and handling. You lose about 1s on 0-60 for whatever that's worth. Truthfully, I don't drive it hard that often though so that really became a non-issue over time. The EL cargo space is nice and it does ride a little nicer than the SL. You can't have it all (unfortunately), so just choose whichever one more closely suits your current needs.

Anything smaller, faster you'd be dead. My son ran into a concrete light post and like you only suffered burns from the air bag. '03 was totaled. Son's comment was "look at this way dad you're getting a new truck". I bought a brand new '05 and still have it with over 291k miles. All I'll ever buy.

Kid's got good aim. He hit that thing dead center of the truck.
</snark>

Glad he was uninjured. I know I'm comfortable hauling my family around in something so stout.

This truck saved my life today, RIP old friend. Airbag slap to the face, will miss it. A bit tossed up and feel sick.

I just read through this thread and I'm glad you weren't injured. That's the main thing.

I was thinking about the situation and it's good that you didn't have to put any money into the Expy trying to fix the starting problem. It would have been worse if you had to replace a computer and then total the truck. Also from what I have seen NADA values are usually quite a bit higher than KBB or Edmunds so you may get a good price from the insurance. Good luck in finding a new vehicle.
