Newbie here, getting ready to order my Expy :D I've seen several threads from people coming from GMs/other large SUVs, but am curious if anyone came from a mid-size SUV...if so, what has your experience been like? I'm a Ford gal (first car was a Tempo, later had a Mustang GT and Explorer), but I've been driving a 2013 Durango for the last few years. So happy to be coming back to Ford, but expecting some interesting first few weeks to transition. Any experiences? I have quite a wait in front of me so I'll make some popcorn in the meantime...

Wont be much of a difference coming from a Durango, these trucks aren’t very large by comparison. Probably will feel similar.

Definitely larger than the Acadia we came from, and feels that way. Parking is the real adjustment; even with cameras and sensors and top-down-view and automatic parking (which we haven't used yet lol), it still is an adjustment backing this behemoth into anything.

On the plus side, it's quieter, and feels fairly athletic (just not as nimble as the Acadia, if I'm honest). The big difference is the seating room; more room across the board. And if you got the Max version, then you'll have a lot more cargo-room in back.

I disagree on the parking I find the expedition to be easy and nimble for backing into tight spaces. it reacts quickly and goes where you want it. Doesn’t feel large to me but I’m
used to bigger vehicles so that could be perceptive.

Thanks for the thoughts! I backed it into a parking spot during the test drive, as that's how I usually park. It wasn't bad at all (considering you're parking a small tank), but then again the parking lot was empty! It feels much roomier than the Durango...the Expy's 2nd row seats feel more spacious than the Durango's front seats, lol. The Durango is sportier and often is described as more nimble, but I think that comes at the expense of a smoother, quieter ride. The Expy sort of felt like it was floating along by comparison, but it had great pick up for such a comfortable ride.

I tested a plat reg length, max ltd on base suspenders and now own a reg length ltd on base suspenders. They all ride different. The plat has a luxury car ride, one of the smoother cars on the rd point blank. The ride on regular shocks is great for a truck and smooth all around, not as smooth or soft as ccd models but handles pretty damn good for a 17ft 6k lb truck

So I drove a 2014 Durango Citadel before I got my Expedition Limited - standard size. I really enjoyed the Durango but felt cramped driving it. Really like the Expedition and the additional space it has. I got the bench seat and can easily haul three hockey players and all of their stuff and still have room for more. The ride isn't quite as nice as the Durango but I enjoy the extra HP. Only thing I would have done different was ordering the nicer package to get the CCD and better camera.

This. Came from a 2003 Explorer and 2014 Sienna.
Wife has a 2012 Highlander it is much easier to park especially backing in.
Highlander and Sienna had no lines on the back up camera and that helps tremendously.

My wife never wanted a full size SUV because of parking. Now she wants to dump the Highlander for another.

I traded my 2016 explorer colt for mine. Love it, it is larger and that is why I opted for the 360 camera. Only grip is the dash information was was better on the explorer, cold have Navi and music info. The expedition you can tel is from the f150. I love best how easy to get in the third row, and the ride is better also.

We had a 2017 Acura MDX and went to the 2018 Platinum.
My wife had no issues with parking or adjusting to the Expedition (we both hated the Acura).

Agree that the Durango feels a little cramped (even compared to the Explorer, which is similar size-wise). Maybe it's me, but the Durango feels a little dinkier, meaning that the doors are thinner. I dunno. A total tangent, but I'm curious...did you have the (apparently widespread) issue with acceleration creating a burning-oil-smell in your Durango? It happens 100% of the time if I 'get on it', but sometimes even at 1500-2000 rpms. Hands down my biggest gripe about the Durango. My husband calls it a 'Dodge thing' but I call it obnoxious!

Thanks for all the thoughts...this is awesome! I am really excited to get back in a Ford. Tempted to go back to the dealership to drive again, but I'm sure the salesguy's got better stuff to do. Maybe I'll borrow my Dad's F150 for a couple of days ;)

No, they don't, lol. If they act like that, then they're not good salesmen. GO drive it till you know for sure.

I never had the burning oil smell with my Durango. Again, I really liked it. Pretty nice form factor for most people.

I'm actually going to drive today at a different dealership, yay! The first dealership was trying to peddle a crappy deal, so we're looking elsewhere.

Good to know, thanks!

The durango is a nice truck, Almost had one myself. The expy is more roomy but not as nimble as the rango. On a good day, mines rides better, but overall the rango is more settled. Havent driven the pilot, atlas or highlander. I actually want to drive a 302 ltd to see the direct diff btw that and mines

I've got a first edition, but size wise the same as new ones. Mine is 4x4 and lightly lifted. It took about 2 weeks to get comfortable with the size. Once you do, you'll love it! I too had mustangs, and 2 Lincoln 2 doors. The 2018 is a nice vehicle, you'll love it!

I learned how to drive on a Continental Mark V (which was the smaller of the Lincolns you could buy then). Staggering how big those old cars are now compared to modern cars. But oh what a smooth ride.
