I've searched and read through about 20 pages of threads without a positive answer for this question. I have a 97 Expedition (3 days now), it's an EB, 4x4. It's sagging in the rear, air bags in the back, air shocks up front. I want to know for sure which monroe conversion kit to get. Seems to be two part #s, 90006 which from my understanding is for rear air only & 90010 for 4 corner air which mine is. Just want to make sure i get the right one before i order and what the difference is between the two.

Thanks

Nick

Did more research with no luck on an absolute answer. Last night I ordered the 90010 kit from amazon. $204 with free shipping. I'll probably do some sort of write up on it when I finally throw it on.

Monroe 90010

I just put in Monroe kit 90010 and just upgraded the rear shocks to the Monroe reflex for more height and more capability for towing. I also cranked the torsion bars to level out my 01 , it looks really nice and I'm happy with the ride. Ps the shocks that come with the kit are sensa- tracks which are rated for light trucks to mid size suv's. Hope this helps.

I can't answer your question on the upgrade but on my '98 4x4 EB the rear sagged also. It ended up being 2 things. The bushings were gone on the front sway bar so I replaced them ($15) and I adjusted the rear sensor to raise it up. Since then no problems and it rides very well. I chose to keep the 4 wheel air suspension on mine since I pull a car trailer occasionally.

Thanks that makes me feel like i actually ordered the right kit. I'll put on what comes on the kit for now. I doubt i'll tow anything anytime soon. I just can't wait to see how it rides and the stance once it's done. It looks pretty pathetic at the moment. I'll post pics and a write up when it's done of before and after.

Right now the rear wheel wells are only 30" from the ground with newish 265/70/17's on it!

So I received my monroe 90010 kit yesterday and went ahead and started the install after work last night. Anybody that has installed shocks on a car is capable of installing this kit.

REAR

Took me 2.5 hours to install the rear, by myself with just hand tools. All you really need are a couple of 18MM wrenches, 18MM socket, breaker bar, ratchet, a pry bar, and a flat head screwdriver.

After i jacked it up and took off the tires i removed the lower shock bolts on both sides, and the lower stab link bolts on both sides.
Then i started on the driver side as it looked to be the more difficult side with the gas tank providing some blockage.
I removed the upper clip from the top of the bag, then used a pry bar to pull it out.
once it was just hanging out i disconnected the line and connector. Then I pulled the top drivers side shock bolt, (hardest bolt to get to).
Then installed new shock with upper bolt, (saved the lower shock bolts til later.
Jumped to passenger side, removed the bag clip at the top, pryed the bag out, then removed the upper shock bolt on that side.
Installed new shock with upper bolt on the passenger side, (again saving the lower bolts until later.)
Now it was time for coil springs. With the rear end at full droop with no shocks connected and the sway bar disconnected my coil springs would not just slide right in.
What i did was put the isolater on top of the coil spring and moved the upper part into place (there is a top and a bottom to the spring, both fit their perch really well.
I then used my handy pry bar again to compress the shocks enough to get them over and into it's perch.
A compressor would have made the job easier but probably would have taken more time, (This step took me less than 5 minutes on each side.)
Then hooked up both lower shock bolts and stab links.

FRONT

This took me alot longer than necessary because of replacing other items and breaking stuff. Could probably be done in 1.5 hours without anything breaking, maybe less.
Jack up the truck and put it on jack stands, and remove wheels.
Jack up the lower control arm so it's being supported, remove the cotter pin, and loosen the castle nut on the upper balljoint, seperate the upper ball joint, remove the castle nut all the way and let the steering knuckle out of the way.
Remove the upper shock nut along with bushings and washer (kit comes with all new).
Remove the lower shock bolt (keep or replace, kit does NOT come with new).
Remove air line hook up and shock should come right out.
Lower your jack that's under the lower control arm until you have enough room to get the new taller shocks in place. I installed the upper bushing and nut first. Then you can raise the control arm with the jack until the lower bolt lines up with the hole.
Tighten up the lower shock bolt.
Raise the jack back up high enough to reinstall the the upper ball joint into the steering knuckle.
Reinstall the castle nut and cotter pin.

That's all it should take, be careful not to stretch or bang the brake hose and you shouldn't have any real issues.

I didn't take many pics under it because I was by myself, but i did take before and after pics that i'll post up later. I'll also finish the write up when i do the fronts this after noon.

Fantastic

I appreciate your info! I am receiving this kit today from Amazon/Just Suspension. Let us know how this turns out.

I am curious about the ride you had. My 99 EB 4wd is extremely shaky, bumps feel like the hole truck is being shaken apart, and wallows and floats excessively. Tracks down the road straight but generally acts as though, on a conventional suspension, the shocks are totally shot.

I really can't wait to see if the Monroe kit fixes this... anybody know for sure?

Sounds exactly like my truck. Unfortunately I'm not done yet, ran into issues on the front. One suggestion before you start or as your starting the front, SEPARATE the upper ball joint! It doesn't say to in my instructions but it is necessary! I broke both brake hoses, a hard brake line, and a stab link. Also when I finally separated the uppers they were both shot so I had to replace those as well.

Finally Done!

Just got back from my test drive. What a difference. I haven't had the truck long enough to know what the stock ride is like, but this kit provides a very nice ride. So beside just putting on the kit, I replaced both front brake hoses (broke), pass side stab link (cut off), both upper control arms/ball joints (needed replaced), driver side lower shock bolt (trashed), pads and rotors (rotors were junk on both side with one being cracked), and the passenger side hard brake line! So that's what took so long. I'm going to edit my step by step above to include the front instructions.

How's it coming?

Progress report? I am really looking forward to learning from your experience. One of my upper ball joints is shot I believe (prev owner replaced the other three. I know, 3? give me a break) so I will heed your advice and replace the 4th one when I perform this kit.

Keep us posted on your progress and resultant ride improvement (fingers crossed)....

Thanks

I know you already converted your Expy but my mechanic told me that nowadays it cost the same amount if you just replace your original air bags. When the time comes, thats what I will do because I tow and I LOVE the air suspension when it comes to towing.
I looked up the replacement air bags and they werent expensive at all.
Anyhow, good job doing it yourself. I woulda been scared to tackle on that task.

How did this specifically affect the shakiness we talked about? Wallowing/Floatiness?

Thanks!

Ton's better, doesn't want to bounce all over the road when i hit a bump anymore. It's a very smooth ride for such a big truck. I had a 2000 blazer before this and it's a way better ride!

I don't see the rear coils in your kit picture, they came with the kit though, right?

yeah they're in there, hiding in cardboard. Sorry I didn't take pictures I was in such a hurry to get this on there and back on the road. Kit comes with coilsprings and upper isolators, front coilover shocks with new upper bushings and nuts. Instructions are ok, (they come in 3 languages), not alot of pictures for the guys who don't like to read.

Any chance you could measure the overall height of your truck? I assume you have std 265/70/17 tires? I need to make sure this will clear my garage door before I finally install it this week!

Thanks so much!

I have a question about rear Sway Bar bushings. Has anyone installed these on a 2007 or newer? If so, can you do it on the ground? Is it fairly easy? I have an 07 with air suspension. Thank you in advance
