Gentleman,

First off, I want to thank whoever started this forum and it's members, I have been researching some questions that I have had for an 2010 Expedition EL Limited I just purchased. One being where the hell the key code is and how to get to it. Found it with the help of this forum, that alone saved me money, so I felt I needed to be a contributing ($) member.

A little background, I bought a Traxx 3/2 lift kit, not installed yet, till I find what tires I want. Manufacture, size, what will fit. I will tow a boats mainly no big deal but I have one that's about 10K pounds, it's not trailer-able because of the beam . She's 11 feet wide. but in case of emergency ( maintenance, taking on water, hurricane) I would like to be able to pull her out of the water not trailing it anywhere, just pulling it out of the water.

Is the truck capable? I think it would be..

So here's my question, I been looking at tires mainly 285/55/20's.. but I have found that 275/65/20's are a little less money and will hold more weight. What would the RIDE difference be between the two sizes?? Or would the 65's not fit without rubbing? Or maybe something I don't know that someone here does.

I bet you never thought I was going to finish.. Thanks

It's probably capable, but you would be exceeding the rated tow capacity by a considerable amount. The EL 4x2 maxes out at 8,900 lbs and that's before you subtract out for any passengers/cargo inside your vehicle.

Weakest link will be the trans, that is a lot of weight to pull uphill from a stop with out a granny low.

I currently have a 2&1/2" spacer lift (both front and rear) on my 03 expedition and I am currently running 275/65R20 when not towing I run my air pressure at 30 psi to keep the ride nice. I know with the EL being more weight that you can run about 35 psi and it should be perfect. I love the ride of mine, and the only time I rub is in reverse at full turn I.e backing out of my driveway.
