Since I bought my expy about 3 months ago.Blizzard conditions here in Tulsa, but never even whimpered going through sometimes 2+ foot drifts.Have a question,my charging system has been acting goofy this morning. It will charge, then not charge, then I will hear the belt start to squeel and then it will charge for awhile again, and keep doing that senerio. Is my belt just getting wet or do I need a new one?Havent looked at it lately to see the condition but it will squeel always before it starts chargeing again.

The newer serpentine belts generally should not make noise. If the belt is in good shape (not hard and cracked) and the tensioner is doing its job and keeping the belt tight, there should be no noise/slip. When the alternator or other driven pulley tries to stop, something has to give. Yesterday I saw an A/C clutch get red hot and smoke (compressor locked up) yet the belt turned the pulley around the clutch (engine loaded down some too). When an accessory locks up, usually the belt slides on that pulley until the belt heats up and breaks. An alternator does take more horsepower to drive when the amps are high. If there is a control issue that is causing the alt to put out minimum amps most of the time then spike to a high load/high amp that might be the issue you describe. I know I didn't answer your question, but I hope I helped.

squeal at start up now that it is cold -15

hi, just got my 06 expy EB.Went out this morning it was -15 here in the Springs and started it up ,it squealed for about 10 seconds and then stopped. I thought it may be a it was a belt, but the noise had stopped . After the engine came up to temp it never made that noise again and I stopped and restarted thru out the morning. Was it a fluke or does it seem like a bad ot loose belt? thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. With it being that cold, the belt was hard and stiff. Crank pulley prolly spun on it until it got a little heat in it till it finally grabbed. If it does it after its warmed up then i would look at a new belt

could get belt dressing in auto store....stuff works. good on belts if we have to reuse them after changing a piece and not replacing good belt.
