Howdy,

My radio works fine, all speakers, sub etc. but the reception seems spotty periodically. I do not believe it's weather related to rule that out.

I'm in a major city (Houston) and proximal to the antennas for the stations. It should be fine.

Any ideas? Is it the receiver? Connections?

It ticks me off to have static on the radio. :)

Thanks Don.

PS, I miss driving the 17 from Walnut Creek to Santa Cruz, Aptos etc.

(Except when a truck 'popped' a rock in front of me and hit the windshield)

You might try an aftermarket antenna you can place under the dash and see how that improves it. Or experiment with it and maybe run it up the windshield pillar. But there's plenty of room to hide it under the dash too. The plug on the back of the radio is the standard antenna plug. I replaced my factory head unit many years ago when the CD thing broke and my Pioneer NAV head unit has a slot for a Micro SD card. So I loaded my favorite 1000 songs on that thing and never use my radio anymore. Don't have to listen to commercials either. It has satellite radio in it too but I don't use that.

The fixes mentioned here are probably best option. The antenna, in mine anyway, is located in the passenger side rear window. I have that same issue particularly when a big rig is being passed on my passenger side. Mine has the dealer installed SiriusXM radio so that’s my usual go to, although I’m having what seems to be antenna issues with it now as well. I plan to replace that soon when I have time. I have two spares, and it’s 15 years old so likely has issues.
