So I ordered a kit from ebay that is supposed to allow you to keep your fog lights on with the high beams. It involves splicing some kind of relay between the fog light wire and the high beam wire on the passenger side. It also has a 20 amp fused link that needs to go to "any 12v source, like the solenoid wire"

Can anyone advise me where I should connect this? I'm not positive which wire is the solenoid and I don't want to just make a splice anywhere. Thanks.

On my old 03 focus SVT you could just pull the relay and put a jumper wire in. I would have to look at a schematic for the expy or get off my butt and grab the power probe.

Yeah. I think on the expedition negative 12v is sent to the fog lights (or something) when you switch on the high beams.

I'm just trying to find somewhere to hook the fused link that wont cause any problems.

So basically what its doing is when the power cuts off at high beam, the high beam will trigger your relay to give power to the fogs. 2 issues I have with this setup, first if you use HIDs for fog lamps, it will temporarily disrupt the power to the ballast. This is generally not good for the life of the ballast and bulb. Second, did they provide diodes to prevent the power from moving up the factory fog harness?

What I did for mine was I abandoned the factory fog harness and instead used a relay kit tapped to the parking lamps. So when I switch on the park lamps the fog are ON as well (which looks cool IMO if I may add)

I tried the simple wire splice on mine, but quickly unspliced it when I noticed that the low and high beams would come on together when flipping on the high beams.
Lows, highs, and fogs make for some killer light, but the bulbs don't last very long...

Just hasn't been high on my priority list to do some rewiring and separate the fog circuit from the high beam circuit.

I believe this is the relay assembly that forms the basis of the kit.

I thought about doing "the splice" but I heard that this would cause the problem Yudaman mentioned. So I figured what the hell I'll just get a kit and do it.

I don't see myself installing HIDs so I'm not too worried about that.

I'm not very studied on relays and diodes otherwise I would have just done it myself haha. What do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure my low beams stay on when I hit my high beams. I'll have to go check. All my other fords seem to leave the low beams on. Just the fogs go off when I switch the highs on.

Yep lows stay on with highs. Fogs go off with highs but will come on with just the parking lights.

Interesting. My low beams always go off with the brights.

Mines an 04. I just got it so maybe someone messed with it. I'm pretty sure it is all stock. Except the gotts mod I did the day after I got it.

Mine has separate bulbs for high and low. The older models had one. Didn't think of that.

Ah I thought we were talking about the first generation. That would explain it. I knew I wasn't that crazy haha.

thats another good point I didnt realize. So that method wouldnt work either.

I suggest splicing directly from one of the corner lamps as your trigger.

That's how I did it. But mine, being a '98, uses ground to set the relay. Things just got wonky when power was fed backwards through the system.

I'll find a way around and post it. Fogs haven't been a concern now that summer is nearly here.

I went ahead and installed the kit I ordered from eBay. I like the results. I feel like I can see everything with the combination of the high beans and fog lights.

The only thing that some may not like is that the fogs will now always be on whenever the brights are on., including the flash to pass function. This doesn't bother me. Besides, I can always just remove the fuse if I decide I don't like it.

You just need a diode. This will prevent power from being fed backwards

This is a simplified description of what I did. However I added a DRL functionality so I added a secondary switched power source

I only used a single relay with both triggers leading to single terminal. With this setup, the foglamps are completely independent of the low or high beam
