Just wanted to mention that I am a new owner of a 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition and I wondered about whether my Expedition had been in any recalls from Ford. Glad I am so inquisitive. I ran my VIN number on the Ford website and got a warning notice that my vehicle had an unperformed recall repair related to the cruise control system that if left undone has led to numerous vehicle fires. I contacted the local Ford dealer and inquired if they would perform the repairs for me not the original purchaser and they said that they would do the recall repairs at no charge and they stocked the parts and it only takes about 20 minutes. I was back on the road again by 8:30 am and they even gave me a complimentary carwash. So, if you were not the original owner and if you don't know if your vehicle had the recall repairs performed you should make an inquiry with your local dealer..you have nothing to lose and it may save you from a vehicle fire.

sorry, I forgot where I found the link exactly but it was on the Ford website. The problem was with the way the cruise control is wired and the fix only takes them about 15 minutes to do. They did something to the wiring under the hood at the brake master cylinder is all I know. The local Ford dealer did the recall for free and even offered me a free carwash. You need not be the original owner.

if I remember correctly the "fix" is adding a fuse in line with the cruise control so the fuse blows before it catches on fire

The one I ended up getting has a tag on the wires that says something like: internal fusible link not serviceable or something to that effect. I assume that's the recall fix?

Yes, They install a fuseable link that melts in the event of a short circuit on the cruise control.
