Hey Ya'll,
I have a 99 Eddie Bauer 4wd (A4WD) 5.4 4R100. I had to use 4lo this afternoon and when I applied the gas the frontend started popping. No noise or vibration without the transfer case engaged. I have recently replaced both CV shafts, new ball joints, and new brakes.
All of the research I have done points to CV shafts, but they are new. Can someone point in the right direction for a troubleshooting procedure?
Thanks, Scott

Was it popping only when turning? Or was it a repetitive "pop" as soon as you engaged it?

It starts popping as soon as you press the gas pedal, it doesnt seem to matter which way the wheels are pointed.
Thanks, Scott

Found the result, not the cause: Passenger side axle tube is broken, in the area where the bolt flange is. Is there a written procedure here on how to replace the tube? Will have to investigate further as to why and how it broke.
