Hello all,

I've got a 2008 EB 4x4 with 140k on it. Over the last 10k or so there has been a popping noise developing, and recently has become significantly louder. It originates from the front drivers side suspension going over bumps (even small ones now such as uneven pavement). It is only on the drivers side. It sounds like a ball joint popping in and out of place but when I jack it up and get underneath I can't for the life of me figure out where its coming from. I read somewhere that it may be the stabilizer bar joint, but honestly I have no idea how to test it (not terribly experienced in suspension troubleshooting). Has anyone had this issue before, and/or a good way to test joints to see if theyre bad?

Cheers thanks in advance for your help.

Roll up on a couple of stacked 2x4s with just the drivers side wheel to compress the suspension somewhat and do another inspection. Then jack that corner up by the frame until the suspension unloads all the way and look again.

Pay attention to the sway bar endlinks. They tend to make a "pop" noise. The sway bar is notorious for a squeak sound.

For suspension troubleshooting, a rubber mallet is your best friend. Crawl under the car and simply wail away on every suspension part. Any sound that isn't a dull thud is worth pursuing.

Here's a quick and dirty inspection procedure.
