Front heat question?

I have the Non ETAC unit and no ac compressor (yet). I noticed that with the colder temperatures the front heat is much cooler than the rear heat. it's not cold air but it isn't really heating either. Thing is, I can turn the function knob to "MAX AC" and when the blend door switches to recirc the air gets warmer and I can turn the fan up to warm more air. The water pump, thermostat, and coolant are all new or only half a year old. the heater hoses are clean too along with me back flushing both cores. both flowed easily with only very fine particulate from the front core.

So, noting that it's just the cold incoming air, is it possible to force the recirc function while the air is directed to the windshield or floor? I am new to the vacuum operated system.

Is the truck getting to operating temp ?
are the hoses to the heater core hot (in and out)?
Does the temp change when you move the temp control buttons?

Everything works as it should. Nominal op temp seems to be at 197f . Both hoses are warm and the knob operates the door fine. I have full range from hot to cold air but in the cool nights its not blowing as hot as the rear unless I have it on max ac

if it is a blend door I will have to make time to investigate it later

Did you check your damper? I have a similar problem and I'm thinking that the damper may be an issue (see my post on this forum).

I have good air flow from all of the vents. (not at same time but when selected)
I have control of the temperature and I believe there is no problem internally (blend door, clogged core) I suspect that the cold external air is too much for the heat to warm as placing it in recirc seems to warm it up properly.

ford workshop manual on DVD can be obtained from seller "morpheousking" on e-bay cost about $10.00 much better than Clymer, Haynes or Chilton and also includes wiring diagrams

It is well worth the $10.00 just make sure you get the DVD for your year as the seller has different DVD's for different years

You say that the hoses are warm if you can hold you hand on the hose its still to cool . if you have an off brand T stat put a ford one in it

you say Nominal op temp seems to be at 197f. What did you measure that with. The words seems to be seems as if your guessing. and as Just4Fun stated if you can hold your hand on the hoses they are to warm I know I can only hold about 125 deg in my bare hands so that would tell me your inlet and outlet temps are way low You could also have a damper door that isn't fully closing

I have an obd bluetooth scanner and torque pro, while driving I can watch it rise to about 201f then sink to about 185 and rise to about 195-199 and sit there. it seems that there may have been air trapped in part of it as I decided to give her the beans. then I heard a gurgle and the heat got much warmer. I guess I can mark this as closed.


TL;DR had trapped air in the core. floored it from a red light and it purged it out.
