i have a 2012 limited 4x4
There is an intermittent rotational squeal coming from the front right wheel. It's not the brake pads, bc they are new. It happens typically at slower speeds but I have heard it on the highway also. It goes away when I engage the four wheel drive. The noise comes and goes. It's not a humming noise that bearings typically make and it's not a clicking like uv joints make. It's sounds like metal rubbing.

Any ideas?

Raise the front right wheel and try spinning it by hand. Do this preferably in a quiet environment. You'll narrow down the likely cause.

Sounds like the IWE isn't fully disengaging. When in 2 WD the IWE is disengaged but it will be fully engaged when in 4X4 as there is no vacuum applied to the IWE
