I have an '00 and an '11 Expedition. The '11 has an in-tank filter that is part of the pump assembly. If you need to replace that filter you have to drop the tank and replace the entire pump assembly. I also have a couple '05 Explorers and an '08 F-150. The inline fuel filters on the '00 Expy, the '05 Explorers and the '08 F-150 are all a pain to change. Ford "quick disconnect fittings" are not "quick" disconnect, period. They are slow, stubborn, and stuck disconnect fittings, but not "quick". I change fuel filters on all of those every 30,000 miles. I have all kinds of metal and plastic quick disconnect tools that I have tried over the years, but none have been the perfect tool. And those filters are located where you cannot get both hands on them and often where you can barely get the quick disconnect tool on them with sufficient pressure to make it disconnect. Usually when I've run out of swear words and am just about ready to give up, the quick disconnect finally disconnects. I've never had one that didn't finally disconnect. I'm not sure what I'll do about the '11 Expedition with its "permanent" filter. I have dumped to much gasoline "mud" out of used filters over the years to think that any fuel filter is "permanent". I hate the idea of spending that much money to get the pump assembly just so I can get a new filter and having to drop the tank. I'll probably wait until I notice an issue.

I will throw this out there for reference. The '04 Expedition fuel filter is the easiest I've ever changed. Can do it on the ground and in less than 5 minutes. The '06 was a little bit more of a hassle.

nope

I use good ol common sense

not a lot of it around these days

internet children want to have everything spoon fed to them

Maybe its your generation's fault for not passing it down

Then again, my old man only ever had barely enough for himself --- certainly no spare sense to go sharing it

Ford quick-disconnects: usually built with 6'6" slender long-fingered females in mind

I keep on expecting people to gain a bit of wisdom or at least some zen/"meh whatever" worldview (patience, tolerance, indifference, maturity, call it what you will) with age.

...nope, surprisingly rare
