Instructions tend to say open gas cap so that some pressure thingie keeps it from spitting fuel at you....what do you do on capless?

Ive never looked at the actual service instructions but since the flap still seals tight I would Just slide something in there to keep the flap open slightly.

So just stick in whatever funnel you use to pour in additives?

Thats what I would do But like I said I've never read the service manual and have never removed a fuel cap while doing a filter... Lol

What did you do instead? Pinch off the line with something?

Is there anything you can royally screw up on a Triton 5.4L filter change? Cuz I'm coming from a diesel bimmer, and on that thing, if you didnt fill up the fuel filter with diesel or an additive and didnt purge the system of air bubbles, it could supposedly royally jack up an expensive high pressure fuel pump.... or something. Not sure if any of that is relevant to gasoline systems in general or the Triton in particular though.

Anyone?

no no no

you need to take the pressure off the fuel line not the tank. There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail (like on a wheel) that you can use to relive the pressure same port as you would use to test fuel pressure

the tank has nothing to do with it. The fuel line holds 30 psi or whatever it is pressure. The pressure in the tank is minimal and is controlled by the EVAP system

It's only makes pressure when the pump is running so the only has you'll get it what's leftover in thr lines. I'll normally just drop a small bucket underneath the connections I working with and let the gas st in into the bucket. Pressing the Schrader is the easiest way to confirm youbhabe no pressure but you'll still have liquid

Throw a little bucket under the truck and just throw it back in your gas tank afterwards. Just don’t light up a cigarette:smoke2:

The pressure spurt when you crack the fuel line at the filter will be much like opening a Coke can.

"SPPPSSSSSSSSSHT"....done. Lay a rag over the joint if you feel it necessary.

Anybody got a roadmap where to find all this shit?

Youre making it sound like everybody knows what a shrader or a fuel rail is...

If you don't know what either of those are I would HIGHLY suggest buying a service manual for your vehicle before attempting to do any work on it. A factory service manual will set you back $100-150 , but even a Haynes or Chilton would be good enough for most repairs like this and can be had for $25

Ok
2012+ don't have fuel filters. They're integrated into the tank as lifetime.

Right?
