I did a lengthy post or two awhile back about Gearhead and some others. Haven’t been on here in awhile since I got rid of my Expedition, but still have an F150 so I’ll chime in.
I’ve had them all. I’ve tried them all. I’ve seen the inside of some guys’ files and even do some of my own tuning. I know how each company builds their files and understand the changes happening. That said, from a reliability and refinement standpoint, Gearhead is #1 for me. The newest GH stuff will accelerate and put you in the seat the same as all the others, but the refinement and time gone into the tune is noticeably better. Having talked with Matt and used him for years, he is as OCD as they come for perfection in his tuning.
If you want a set it and forget it tune, go GH. If you want to spank everyone in a race and have a very custom experience, go ZFG or MPT. I like them as well. But at the end of the day, it’s all preference based user to user.
If you want to tow a lot, get a trans. only tune from someone or tow stock with an intercooler and colder thermostat for great performance and reliability.
