ok i use to have a 99 eb expedition but since that broke i sold a awhile back,now i am wanting to get a another expedition since my daily driver has been a 97 pontiac grand prix since the expedition has been sold... its getting into that winter season so i need to get something good in snow so ive been looking at 2003-2006 expeditions for the most part i wanted to get feed back on how these models are....i test drove my girlfriends step dads that has a 05 i liked it for the most part just feels way different for me then how my 99 felt...so im just looking for feed back and opinions on the 2003-2006 expeditions any would really be nice....

if you like to go off road occasinally i would stick with a first gen the outhers have all around independent sus i have not drivin a 2nd gen but do have a 3rd gen they are alot diffrent

FOr $5000, you can buy mine. ALready set up to make it through whatever snow you can put in front of it. Just saying. As for the 03-06 models, if you need something for snow, you need to make sure that it is 4x4 (unlike your 99 which was automatically a AWD). Beyond that, you may find that they sit a little lower than your 99, so, it won't pass through quite as deep of snow. But, it will do just fine.

I have an 05 and I love mine. There's no snow in Fl so I can't say for that, but I love the ride. Mine is a 4x4 and it has the A4WD and I have taken it offload a little. If you get one, get the 3/2 lift and at lease some 33's or maybe even 35's. It needs it for the breakover angle. I know, I got stuck on a hill because of it. Get those things and you'll be good.

ok I'm still tring to find one... i don't wanna go back to the 1st gen just because i want something newer for work when i have to drive to meetings and stuff like that and a little more functional when it comes to everyday use...thats why i want a 2nd gen.... but i would thing the 2nd and 3rd gens would be a lot smoother off road because of the independent suspension all the way around i know the solid rear axles on the 1st gen would get a lot more flex though....i think i need to find a dealer to let me test drive one take it off road and see how it does hahaha....

Max, I was around for a test mule run with Ford bringing their 03 Expy's on a fun run against a bunch of 1st gen X's back in 2002. Of the 30 trucks that made the trip, only 2 got stuck that day, both of the 03 test mules. The problem with the IRS is that when you start pushing a wheel up into the wheel well, the rear end tends to sink. This causes the rear differential to hit a lot more stuff. Where the solid axle of the 1st gens rises when one wheel is lifted. When it comes to snow, it isn't that big of a deal as all 4 tires tend to remain on a fairly flat plane.
Almost all the guys on that trip said the 2nd gen trucks rode really nice on the road, but when it came to 4x4ing, the 1st gens are by far superior.

yea i know i took my 1st gen through some crazy stuff offroading just i need the best of both worlds... so im really in a pickle on what to get rght now... but i do have to admit there are alot of different suzs that would be great at both but after ive had a expedition its the only one i actually enjoyed having...
