Ghost 4x4

Hello everyone,

Glad I found a place with so much info on Expeditions.

I'm sure the problem I'm having has been talked about on here but I'll

ask anyway.

I have a 1998 with a 4.6; I'm having problems with the 4wd turning

on when the switch is still in 2wd position. Sometimes it will switch

into Awd while driving down the road or even into 4hi! Also I have never

been able to shift into 4lo, is there a certain procedure for shifting into 4lo?

My guess would be faulty gem module..

To go into 4 low you have to stop. Put it into neutral and shift to 4 low. Sometimes you may have to let off the brake to allow the truck to move a bit.

Same procedure to get out of 4 low.

I had this problem and I replaced the shift motor cause the the case was rusted and cracked open and it stopped!

Thanks for the help I stopped by a local parts store and they told

me I need a body control module. Is this the same as a gem module?

The other problem is they told me I have to take mine out so they can

ship it out to get rebuilt! Is there a place other than the dealer to purchase

a gem module and where is the module located on the vehicle?

As for the transfer case motor I took a look at mine and it looks virtually

brand new and all connections were tight.

The GEM is located above the fuse box.
