Hey all, havent been on in a week or so, been running around, getting appointments in order for my Expedition. Have tires ordered (nothing exciting, just need tires NOW!) have an exhaust system date, and everything on it works great! One thing I dont know if I like yet, is the A4WD button. Didnt realize it was always an auto-4x4. But, I have the original sticker from the dealership, it was ordered with almost $5000 worth of upgrades, 6 disc cd changer, 8500lb tow pkg, aluminum 16" rims, and illuminated running boards. Not thrilled about some of that but itll end up on a stump somewhere(oops!) Heres a few pics from our first trip to the hills.

Just so happens I have been researching A4WD most of today, because I started to think what I call 'noisy tires' might be something else. After pulling a fuse, I am pretty sure it is just the tires. But in the process, i discovered the "Brown Wire Mod" that allows us to have 2WD with the addition of a simple toggle switch. Something to remember down the line.

Those are the same 16" wheels I had on my 2000 XLT 2WD when I got it.
I was under the impression that only the 2WD got the 16" wheels and the 4WD got the 17" wheels or maybe that was the EB version that got 17's.

yeah EBs got 17s and some xlts. 16s were standard on both 4x4 and 2wd ex's. tire size was bigger on the 4x4s.

My 01 XLT has 17" split five spoke factory 265/70/17. So close to being "No Boundaries" it's not even funny. I'm bummed.....NOT


Just to add about the brown wire mod. My explorer with the same kind of Torque-On-Demand transfer case has saved my ass more than a few times on sharp viaduct on ramps, because even in the slickest of conditions when the truck senses slippage it powers the front wheels. Explorer also got 80,000 miles on a set of Michelin ltx's

My buddy did that in his explorer, he and I are installing one in my expedition when I get home from Kosovo in September

This must be what the 97 and 98's have from the factory since they have a 2WD position on the switch.

yeah 99-02 they got rid of the 2wd setting. then in '03 they went back to it.
