I was wondering if anyone has attempted to install headrest monitors into the 3rd row seating area in a 3rd generation. Just so it is clear I am talking about putting the monitors into the head rests of the middle seats so you would be viewing them from the 3rd row? The headrests do not come off and are the type that flip down when you pull the handle. They seem rather thin but I was wondering if anyone had tried it and if it worked? I would hate to cute the headrest to find that it just would not work. I am even thinking about just screwing the shroud directly to the back of the headrest. I tried one of thos brackets that secure to the headrest posts but there is not enough room for one of those and ended up breaking the bracket.

Bill the headrests do come off, you just have to know how to do it.

If you push the top of the seatback cushion (where the rods go in) down you will see a small clip, carefully remove this and the headrest will slide right out.

By the way, this works for the 3rd row seat headrests also, but they are harder to get to.

Thanks Matt... I will try that. I am not sure what I am feeling but I think the metal supports in the headrest are gonna be in the way. I am now thinking about mounting the monitor flange directly to the headrest and coming up with some sort of filler for the sides so it looks more seemless.

Matt... Thanks again for your help. I took off the head rest tonight and cut the opening for the monitor. It worked and looks great. The middle head rests actually have a plastic plate halfway through so all you have to do is screw the shroud to it and it works perfectly. I will be doing this with all four monitors. Thanks Again

You have to mount them toward the top of the headrest because just below the monitor is the metal frame for the flip down headrest.

I just bent the driver and passenger headrests back enough to mount the other two monitors. I cut these in as well. I will post pics soon. The front headrest do not have the same black plastic backing. Have to use some zip straps and a couple of screws in the harder foam areas to hold in the bracket. You can not go over a 7" monitor in the front headrests because of the shape of the headrests. The previous picture the front monitor was held on by a bracket but since then I have cut in the other headrest. It really is not hard just nerve racking at first. Take your time and cut little by little till it fits.

My car only has two row. So here is my installation of my car dvd headrest. I think it's good, nice screen with Android 2.3 Tablet PC and Car Multimedia System.
