Hey guys,

I got a 97 Expo that putting out 18 volts. Has anyone ever seen a Ford alt do that before? I haven't, only seen them put out 12 volts or less. I'm still thinking its a bad ALt.

I don't think it does, but is this PCM controlled charging?

Appreciate a quick reply if possible.

I would think it’s just a bad alternator, It’s probably a bad voltage regulator. I believe it’s all part of the alternator

Or a bad meter. I think charging voltage should be about 14 volts. Battery voltage after you shut the engine off for a while should be about 12.5 volts. Maybe you should try another meter on this vehicle or try this meter on another vehicle.
