All good questions for your service department.

We all feel like victims when stuff like this happens And we all want answers right away. About 10 years ago my wife and 3 daughters were in our brand new 2013 Explorer and it died in a left turn lane in Dallas. It was the battery.

my wife was furious and took it out on me for a while. I was overseas.
Obviously you should have known better than leave the country while your car was plotting to die. --- Who does that?

Wait, there’s no loaner on this car for warranty work, under the original warranty? I’ve never heard of that before.
Its been that way forever on almost all non-premium brands. Many dealers will give them out selectively.

Check your battery terminal connections, my 2017 XLT did the same thing to me. I cleaned and the connections and charged the battery for 24 hrs on a good battery charger, problem solved.
I had the same thing happen back in the early 90’s with a Taurus SHO, the computer detected low voltage and shut the car off while driving on the interstate. Towed to the Ford dealer, they cleaned the terminals and a quick battery charge and I was in the my way.

I wouldn't think it would be a battery connection in such a new vehicle. Those are considered CC (critical characteristic) torques, so controlled by electrical nutrunner tied to plant error-proofing system. Possible one can get out loose, but unlikely. I often am of the opinion that it's less hassle to fix a problem myself even with a vehicle under warranty, but in this case he shouldn't be doing a darn thing himself. I've never had a problem getting a loaner for things much less severe than this. I think it's pretty much up to the dealer.

Curious what the problem was. Keep us informed!

Wow, I am glad I have a fairly reliable dealer where I live. Hope this have been resolved.

I’ll move closer to you haha.

Last service, the dealer in town used 5 quarts of oil instead of 6 and didn’t rotate the tires (but happily charged me).

Not resolved. Picking up a rental today. They haven’t even got the car in the garage area yet. The battery is dead, they can’t get it out of park because the parking brake is stuck on. He did say there are some steps to go through regarding a module that his tech will have to do. I asked if this issue has happened before, he said yes. Th tech will be reviewing other techs notes/procedure on this issue. Either way still not happy.

Update. I received a rental car. The dealership installed a new battery and nothing. No power. They can not get the electric parking brake to disengage due to no power. Anyone have any guesses?

Update. Dealership is saying bad gateway module. Anyone have more info on this part and what it does?

Wow. I do not know about the gateway module, but 23 days at a Ford dealer to repair a new vehicle - and it is still not repaired!

If the repair / out-of-service goes to 30 days, you may want to research your state’s vehicle lemon law.

I wish you good luck on your situation. It also sounds as though it took several weeks to provide you a rental -loaner?

He already emailed my ford customer rep regarding a possible buyback/lemon law process if something isn’t done. And yes, two weeks before I got a rental.

Last update. Ford is buying back my 23 XLT. Will probably get another one but may hold out for a 25.
It's better to take the cash than get another vehicle that the manufacturer will offer you. They will offer you a like-kind low-mileage used vehicle. I'm in NY and going through lemon law for Jeep Grand Wagoner S3. Just signed the papers last week and they are buying at full price (cash) that I'd paid for. After they take back the vehicle I have to file an NYSDMV form for a refund of all taxes. You should further research to see if you can get back the taxes from DMV.

Yea that’s my plan. Take the cash back. I’ll check on the sales tax I paid. Would be nice to get that as well. I have the option to go full bore lemon law. The repair lasted more than 30 days. So I’m going to see what ford offers.
