Help!!!!starter stays engaged after turn over

Ok guys, it's the newbie here. Alright so I replaced my starter because it was starting to sound like it needed a Catholic priest. It made this wicked sound like the starter was messed up. A high pitch whine/grind. Changed starter and kept old wires (ik ok lazy and abhorrent) still making same sound but now it sounds like it's still engaged for a second after turn over. Any ideas?

Maybe your starter solenoid is going bad, it’s on passenger side on firewall in engine bay
