Help w/Pro-Trailer Assist

Hi.
Wondering if anyone knows a workaround for the following. I’m pessimistic though.

I have a 16 foot aluminum double axle trailer yhat I’m attempting to program into 2019 Expy computer. The trailer has a utility box bolted to the front tongue portion. (See images)

No matter where I place bar-code sticker, the computer will either refuse a measurement, or not find the bar-code. I’ve followed all “the rules”, but the computer is unhappy. I’m speculating that the box height is just not compatible with the computer’s algorithms.

So, besides completely removing the box, does anyone know any other way around this. I suppose I can put a smaller box, but if I liked smaller, I would’ve bought an Explorer. Lol.

You are probably right. The the sticker has to be on the tongue of the trailer. You could take the box off just to double check there isn’t anything wrong with the system itself. And you would know how much room you would loose. It’s a very cool system but after you use it a couple of times you won’t use it again. If you have learned to back with the mirrors I have found it disorienting to use.

Same. I put it on one of my trailers just to check it out and I found it harder to back the trailer than just using the old fashioned mirrors and/or looking out the window.

I don’t see any way to make that trailer work without taking the box off. (Have you tried putting the sticker on the box? I see it on the trailer in the photos)

Yeah, I’ve heard that before.
But you are right. Would only take a few minutes to unmount the box. Then I could try a smaller cardboard box as an experiment to see what size box it will tolerate.

The only thing I could suggest is reconfiguring the box:

- move the tire under the tongue instead of on the side,
- move the jack further forward,
- turn the storage box 90 degrees so you open it from the front.​

then I think you'd have space on the tongue for the sticker.

Quite a bit of pain for possibly little gain though.

Having driven various trailers for at least 45 years, I've never bothered to set it up. I'm interested it trying it, just to see how it works.

I keep thinking I want to try it out but I don't have the time to screw around with it. I figure if I can put a 12' trailer in a 10' spot and have 2' to spare I don't need the pro-assist...

My camper has a lot of junk on the tongue too and I was worried about finding a location for the sticker.

I could see this being helpful for people that don't have a lot of experience backing. I enjoy watching people attempt to back trailers into spots at campgrounds. I have wondered if a camera on the back of my camper would be nice to have though. The mirrors on the expy aren't very wide and even with extensions there isn't much view behind the trailer.

I was going to set it up just to have and maybe teach the wife using that system, but the time and space needed to set it up correctly are both limited in my situation.

I've heard for those used to the "old school" way, it is very counter-intuitive to the way we have backed up before. However, for someone with little to no experience, it makes a lot os sense.

I'm just in no rush. I would much rather have a backup camera on the rear of my camper send a picture to my console screen like the on-vehicle cams do.

Ford does that with the Superduty. You can buy extra rear cameras and view them form the screen. I wonder if our dash equipment has that capability and the wires are not ran. The F-150 and Expy don’t get it and I think they should.

I know the SuperDuty has this as I was looking at the F-250s before buying the Expy. Wife insisted on an SUV over a pick-up. I was unaware the F-150's were also crippled of this feature.
