help with 4x4

my 2006 expy will not engage 4x4. It will go into A4x4 but when I try 4H it does nothing and when I try 4L it keeps telling me to put it in N and press the brake. I have done this a bunch of times with no luck. Any ideas on the cause of this problem. Thanks for the help...

im not too familiar with the 06 but maybe a vacuum problem? a lot of 4x4 with the selector switch engage with a vacuum. if there is a leak in the system, could prevent you from engaging. at least thats what i think. im sure someone (walnuts or dgray) will be around shortly to assist with this issue!

I know the problem being talked about is not the same, but read this thread AND the link that is referenced. It will give you some insight how the 4x4 system works. Hope this can help.

I finally had time to work on my 4x4 issue. I cleaned the wire connections on the shift motor then gave it a couple hits with a small hammer while having my fingers crossed but nothing worked. I then said a couple really bad words hit it again with the hammer and it worked. I guess the previous owner never used 4x4 and the motor was stuck. Like they say, try the easy fix first, bad words help to.
