How much gas your Expedition use?

I think something wrong with my 1999 expedition 5.4L. It get really bad mileage in the cold trip and short trips.

What funny thing it get great mileage on LONG TRIP it got 17 mpg at 55-60 mph. I thought it should be 20. I think there issue with engine since I disable egr and had tiny miss that come on randomly. Reason I disable egr because it was still pulling vacuum at idle.

Exhaust pipe had black soot around it.


Here what I notice strange. At idle with hot engine it consume 0.52-0.57 GPH report by scangauge. I thought it was supposed to be 0.30-0.40 GPH.

My 99 5.4L 4x4 is getting around 11.6 according to the overhead display.

I have hard time believe how anyone on this get 9-12 mpg. I only keep rpm under 2000 most time and no cruise control too.

i just filled up today. 282 miles and 26.4 gallons. thats with 130 highway miles at 70mph the rest in town. about 10.7mpg.

if i get 10-11mpg i'm right at the normal for my truck/driving style.

GEEZ that crazy. For that mileage it should have V12 to get that

About 8-11 for me as well. Get used to it, it is the price you pay for a 2.5 ton SUV with mid 90's technology.

if you think thats bad, my V10 excursion is pretty much 8mpg all the time.

I get about 9 in town, and 11 or 12 on the highway...
