I have a leak, in my T-Case?

I have a leak towards the end of my transmission, I believe this is the T-Case. The leak is where the drive shaft goes in. I went to a local trans part warehouse and they said there wasn't a gasket for it and to just use silicone. I also called the local part stores and they couldn't find anything. So should I just use straight silicone or what's the deal?

its leaking in the rear, as the shaft leaves the transmission and goes into the rear end. The picture is of the leak itself. That circular plated area with that tag is where the leak is. I was told its part of the transfer case, apparently it doesn't have a gasket made for it.

You are right, that is the transfer case. I tore mine out and split it this weekend. . . . but anyway, if its coming out where the driveshaft comes out, you need to replace the seal. Its a simple fix, and pretty cheap. Is it coming out where the seal meets the t case, or where the shaft goes in. I'm guessing its where the shaft goes in, so get a new seal and your set. I'll find a seal on the internet and post it here for you.

Oh no its not the seal. The seal you're talking about is further back behind the pic. I can try and post more tomorrow. But you see the two bolts on the bottom, that is where the leak is. The area just above it with the wires goes into it. (is that a speed sensory?)

Here is the part you are looking for, its a little more expensive than I would have thought, but still not bad. When you change it, I would recommend changing your t case fluid as well. It holds 1.9 pints (just under 2 quarts) of ATF Dex/Merc fluid, I filled mine today, and it was only like 8 bucks for the fluid, hope this helps

i cant ever see your pics. idk why. they are always broken. but anyways it could be a gasket in there. theres screws going in there. there must be something in there. you can most likely drop the t case your self with a jack and do it your self. shouldnt take too long. and open it and let it all drain and put the new part on and seal it and put it back. should take about a few hours or a couple hundred at a shop.

Hang on let me try and post it again. Thats the thing though, trans store said their wasn't a gasket for it, just to put RVT silicone to make a gasket

Is it leaking out of the area where those bolts are at? The way you described it sounds like it is coming out where the driveshaft enters the seal, but is not what you have pictured, so making sure, it is leaking from the area shown where the bolts are with the blue tag?

correct! its right at where those two bolts and that blue tag are at

Ok, Gotcha now! I split my transfer case this weekend, and there are no gaskets for them. I never took the part you have leaking, but here is what to do. Take your driveshaft off. You'll have to look inside, I think its just a hollow piece (it doesn't hold anything in place), if it doesn't hold anything in, you should be able to take the bolts out and pop the piece off. It will drain a little, so drain the t case first, then when you get the piece off, scrape all the old silicone off, then put new silicone on and reassemble and fill it with fluid. I used a high temp RTV silicone. You can get it in a little tube for a few bucks at walmart, its not a big deal as long as its made for heat. There are torque specs for it, but I would put it back together tight with a 3/8 ratchet and call that good. Good luck with fixing it!

its a slip yolk. so you should be able to take off the drive shaft at the axle and pull the drive shaft out, but dont get any dirt on the end. then unscrew the cover and scrap off all the old gasket and put new silicone on it. good to go.

Turns out it was leaking just above the bolts at the position sensor where the wires go in. I can find an o ring for it. Ford has one but won't give it to me without selling the entire sensor for 100. I bought some universal ones but they are too thick. Should I just use gasket sealer?

no idea on that one.... if its around a sensor I would be worried about getting silicon on the sensor and doing more damage... but it can be worth a shot before you have to order the entire part.... but I would check with Josh at Tasca parts or even rockauto.com
