What is your final drive ratio?

You likely need to gear down...though you won't get great MPG with tires that big.

I agree.....When i bought my 2000 EB the guy said he was averaging about 10mpg. I took it, had the fluids replaced, the fuel injectors cleaned, added an Intake and was easy on the gas pedal (which is hard to do cause you just love to hear that exhaust rev up) and I haven't even added my Throttle body spacer yet and i'm averaging about 14 with mostly in city driving. If i can make it to 16mpg i'll be happy....cause my last suv was a 6 cyl Blazer and i got about 15 on average lol

My 2000 5.4 was getting about 12.5 mixed driving. I changed the fuel filter and it went up to around 13.5. I am 1000 miles into my 2500 mile trip from Anchorage to Seattle and I am averaging 17.4. This is manually figuring the milage, not a trip computer. I am very happy with this. When I budgeted the fuel I did it figuring 14 to 15. The most I have had to pay for gas so far was $4.82 in Whitehorse, Yukon. The highest I paid in Alaska was $3.19. If I had gone another 1/4 mile I could have got it for $3.06:mad:

Since the newest Expeditions came out. Really helps with acceleration. :)

Better MPG

Here are tried and true tips from a guy that puts between 30 to 40k miles a year on slow year on his 2001 Eddie Bauer expedition:
Tire pressure between 30 and 34
cold air intake, computer from Edge Products or what ever you feel is best for you and your budget set to ECONOMY if you get the programmable models. The one I have lets me see average MPG and instant MPG. Also gives a report on that and other stuff as well as adjust things like spark advance etc or use remaps from the manufacturers site.
Throttle body spacer
K&N air filter
Larger diameter MAF
No extra weight in the vehicle than absolutely required.
Remembering that the less gas in the tank the more likely it is to evaporate...just sayin..
I put about 1 to 2 cups PURE Acetone in a 26 gal tank every few tanks once a month no more than a few times a year. That's just what I do so it is your call as to trying it.
Also.. Driving like the speed limit is as fast as you can go, accelerate like you are walking on eggs. Coasting when I can in the mountains. I have gone from 15-17 MPG to 19-21 MPG freeway when traveling. For me that's awesome since I always have 300 to 400lbs extra weight from equipment with me most of the time for work.
Pulling a 8x12 cargo trailer I get roughly 16 to 17 MPG and it has my cycle and about 200lbs of other stuff.

In town driving I get 13 to 15 MPG (non-trailer)

The items I had to buy ran a total of $500. adding 2-4 extra miles MPG through a 12 month period of 30 to 40k driving pays for it self.
If your driving doesn't warrant the comp I got then just get an economy chip and it shouldn't cost too much more than $50 to 100 depending on the brand and model.
But the MAF, TB spacer, cold air, K&N filter..those things adds more power AND economy.
Remember..yer engine is a big air compressor. More air in and more air out..performance/economy.
But to remind everyone reading this... this is just what I do. If you do any or all of this and it blows up in yer face. not my fault... what works for me may not work for you...

Wow after reading this i guess i can no longer complain about my MPG. If i drive like an old man in town. Never getting above 1500 RPM. I can get damn near 22 in town. (I bet everyone is going to say "impossible" but i can do it) However Normal driving gets me 15-18. On the interstate best i can do is 19.5. When i refill and check actuall 80% in town and the rest interstate i come up with about 18.5 MPG.

5.4 CAI and Flowmaster cat back. Been thinking about getting a programmer to bump it another MPG or two.

I always just thought all Expy's were naturally horrible on gas. I tended to get around 14/15mpg tank average with about and even split between city and hwy. I read somewhere on this board that if you keep it under 2k rmps at all times even while accelerating that you will be better off so I thought I'd give it a try.

My normal fill up mileage on the trip meter was usually around 335 miles when the gas light would come on. On my 1st trip out trying the low accelerating I went to 408 before the light came on. I'm sold on the grandpa driving style. It takes me few minutes more to get where I'm going but at these numbers, it's hard to complain about that!

i get 15-16 mpg around town with mine, 18-19 mpg on the highway, i have all 4 tires at 35 psi, gott's mod , run Techron in it every couple of tank fulls and i noticed the biggest differance in mpg is where i get my gas. not all gas stations have decent gas
