Better MPG
Here are tried and true tips from a guy that puts between 30 to 40k miles a year on slow year on his 2001 Eddie Bauer expedition:
Tire pressure between 30 and 34
cold air intake, computer from Edge Products or what ever you feel is best for you and your budget set to ECONOMY if you get the programmable models. The one I have lets me see average MPG and instant MPG. Also gives a report on that and other stuff as well as adjust things like spark advance etc or use remaps from the manufacturers site.
Throttle body spacer
K&N air filter
Larger diameter MAF
No extra weight in the vehicle than absolutely required.
Remembering that the less gas in the tank the more likely it is to evaporate...just sayin..
I put about 1 to 2 cups PURE Acetone in a 26 gal tank every few tanks once a month no more than a few times a year. That's just what I do so it is your call as to trying it.
Also.. Driving like the speed limit is as fast as you can go, accelerate like you are walking on eggs. Coasting when I can in the mountains. I have gone from 15-17 MPG to 19-21 MPG freeway when traveling. For me that's awesome since I always have 300 to 400lbs extra weight from equipment with me most of the time for work.
Pulling a 8x12 cargo trailer I get roughly 16 to 17 MPG and it has my cycle and about 200lbs of other stuff.
In town driving I get 13 to 15 MPG (non-trailer)
The items I had to buy ran a total of $500. adding 2-4 extra miles MPG through a 12 month period of 30 to 40k driving pays for it self.
If your driving doesn't warrant the comp I got then just get an economy chip and it shouldn't cost too much more than $50 to 100 depending on the brand and model.
But the MAF, TB spacer, cold air, K&N filter..those things adds more power AND economy.
Remember..yer engine is a big air compressor. More air in and more air out..performance/economy.
But to remind everyone reading this... this is just what I do. If you do any or all of this and it blows up in yer face. not my fault... what works for me may not work for you...
