After installing a new Pioneer 940BT head unit a few years ago I started thinking about other ways to upgrade the old Expod. All the new cars and trucks have backup cameras so I said why not the Expy. Anyway I tried to keep it simple and just ordered a compatible Pioneer camera and had at it. The installation went pretty smooth except trying to locate the darn reverse signal wire from the Ford harness to connect to the head unit harness. After a ton of research on all the forums I was able to locate it fairly easy and splice into it with a heat shrink butt connector. The reverse signal wire ended up being over behind the driver's kick panel in the main harness. It's black with a violet stripe and feeds to/from that big connector that's got a bolt running through the middle of it securing it together. I'll post some pics below for anyone else thinking of doing this install. I took the pics before I finished taping and tie wrapping everything back together.

Feeding the cable up to run forward through the driver's side frame rail.... (used a plumber's snake...)....

Tie wrapped with the parking brake cable for security and run through it's grommet up into the cab floor area nearest the harness....

From there just run under the carpet and to the head unit as needed ....

Mike there is also a connector located on the passenger side behind the kick panel its a 14 pin connector C211 wires bk/pk or vt/wh depending on early or late production model
to make life easier for you consider getting a

Ford workshop manual on DVD. Can be obtained from seller "morpheousking" on e-bay. Cost about $10.00 Much better than Clymer, Haynes or Chilton and also includes wiring diagrams

Don't waste your money on a Clymer, Haynes or Chilton Manual.
It is well worth the $10.00 just make sure you get the DVD for your year as the seller has different DVD's for different years

If you had this manual it would have saved a ton of research

Thanks Bedrck I have the DVD and the paper back version of the actual Helm Ford Shop Manuals (bought new when the truck was new...) but I like pictures ! I really didn't want to deal with the fuse box area and found this harness and wire pretty quick after my Google search and a call to my local Ford tech. To me this was just easier and you'll find this wire on most all models of Fords. Hope someone else finds this useful.

When I read your post I answered you because on 2/1/14 another member asked the same question "Where is the REVERSE wire???????" I did some checks of the electrical prints in order to give him an answer and I found 3 connectors that he could tap into.
They were C146 8pin 5 wires but was located in the eng. Compartment.
The next one was C211 RH kick panel 14pin 13wires.
And also the one that you used C238 66pin 57wires. LH kick panel
I suggested to that person to use C211 as I felt it would be less confusing to him being that connector only had 13 wires on it rather the 57 wires that C238 has Plus being it was on the right side he would have a little more room in that area and not have to contend with the pedals etc on the drivers side Also I felt that if anything were to go wrong IE broken wire that it would be easier to trouble shoot due to less wires on the connector.

I am the other member... LOL
I like pictures too...

I have not decided how to run my back up camera wires up to the front yet.
What side, drivers or passenger.
The harness picture shown in this thread gives me the drivers side option now.

Thanks for posting the pictures hamfisted and thanks Bob / bedrck46 for sending me the PDF of the wire harness.

whatever way you decide to go is up to you Personally I would go on the right side kick panel due to it having less wires to look at and if you were to make an error in the wiring for example break a wire it would be easier to repair Since I don't have a 2003 model and there is a big difference in the 2001 and 2003 wiring harness I can't say which would be easier But depending on your skill level go with whichever one works best for you as either wiring harness will achieve the same results As far as having pictures the manuals I use have the connector diagrams and they in themselves are pictures and also having worked as an industrial electrician for over 50 years they are very self explanatory for me. But one thing I never assume when dealing with people on this forum is their skill level. I do tend to try and keep things simple and hope it solves the problem

Hi Bob, thanks.
It just depends on how easy it is to get to that plug...

I have not set aside the time to run the wire forward yet.
I made it through the tail gate and up into the head liner with the camera wires and I stopped.

Hey Mike.

How did you run your wires up to the front?

What path did you take?

Headliner?
Side panels?
Thresholds?

Jimmy.

Has anyone done this in a 2007 expedition? The wire is green and Brown stripe, that is why I was asking.
