I have a 99 expedition 5.4L. I have read that some folks say they have all aluminium intake. Some folks say there is plastic. I have heard that the plastic intakes are only on the 4.6L. Does anyone know the truth? Also How can I tell if I have plastic or aluminium? Any help would be appreciated. Are the plastic one black and the Aluminum well silver colored. I have also seen that the 99's are the only one that are Aluminium. So what is the truth? Mike

Toney well I did look at it before. I thought it was aluminum. But my brothers 99 Lincoln with a 4.6 had a silver colored plastic manifold that cracked at the thermostat neck. That's why the question. I hit it with a screwdriver and mine sound metallic. By looking at previous threads there seems to be a lot of misinformation going around. I thought someone might know the straight scoop!

It should be fairly obvious when viewing.

The plastic intake manifold has an aluminum runner across the front for coolant crossover so its easy to tell the contrast. If you are questioning it, its most likely aluminum.

Thanks for the picture Toms99. Yep mine is aluminium. I do not have the black runners. I guess I'm lucky to have the aluminum based on the issues with plastic.
Thanks again.

I'm happy to say after replacing the plastic intake and failing COPs on my 98 Crown Vic the 98 Expy I just bought has neither the plastic intake or those...things....on top of the spark plugs. :-D Big ole aluminum monster sitting on top of my 4.6 here.

Actually after getting a chance to look mine over more I've discovered even the aluminum ones are a two piece aluminum/plastic deal. Don't know what is up with that but the tall runners on top are aluminum and at the bottom in the middle where it is hard to see, it's plastic.

That's today's engineers for you. :banghead:
