iPod on Rear DVD Player

I have a 2010 Expedition with the factory DVD player hanging from the roof. The factory stereo has Sync as well as a USB input. Is there any way to play movies from my iPhone or iPod on the DVD screen through the USB? I see the RCA jacks on the side and could use those but the USB would be easier.

For some reason Im pretty sure it will play mp3 but not mp4. So i doubt it.... but whats it hurt to plug it in
