Is this a feasible idea?

I wish Ford implemented at least one USB port on the top console near the rear view mirror to provide a simple elegant way to connect a dash cam or a radar detector.
That said, I’m considering taking our 2025 Platinum to a reputable automobile electronics shop to see if they could install one for me.
Opinions appreciated.
Thanks

If I were here, you would know it !
Well, if your truck has the "digital" review mirror (which may or may not be connected to the same circuit as the back-up camera & flat screen on the dash), you may be able to splice into it's power feed, but if you consider taking this approach, I would take whatever dash cam or detector with you to the shop to have them check on how much power it would draw and whether or not it would interfere with the mirror & camera's operation BEFORE installation...

Also note that radar detectors are illegal in a few states, and most states have strict notification-disclosure requirements/penalties for when, where, how & why you can/can not use dash cams, so depending on how much out of state driving you plan to do, you may want to consider these facts, just sayin :)

Good luck regardless !

Just to be clear, radar detectors are legal in most USA states, laser jammers are illegal in most states. Virginia and a couple of states do not allow possession or use of detectors.

Ooops,I forgot. If you have lights at the mirror you should be able to tap into them.

Well, it appears that the laws have changed in recent years, and I have edited my post above to reflect that, based on the info I found here:

Don't know if it's different on the 2025, but my previous 2020 you can just yank it right off. Just be careful, but quick about it. Of course do it at your own risk, as I don't know about the parts availability on the 25's if one of the clips break, something to keep in mind.

They make a tool for popping of the plastic on cars/trucks. Kinda like a small spatula that you'd flip eggs with. It should pop off. ymmv!

Don’t do that. Just get the long direct power wire and route it accordingly. I wouldn’t do something that I couldn’t undo.
Taking a cover off should not be something that you can't undo. Stands to reason that if you remove it once you should be able to "undo" it if needed.
Blend mount sells a kit that has blade connectors on the wire that you slide into the back of the plug. Takes about 2 minuted to put together. Use whatever you want it's your toy.

The FITDVR Dash Cam Power Adapter is reportedly able to tap into the harness under that cover. It has a small harness that plugs into the factory harness under the cover. That powers a small box that has a 12v. RJ11 port for radar detectors and a 5v. port for dash cams. It comes with several cables to fit different cams. I am awaiting delivery as I write this. Also ordered a Red Tiger F77 dash cam and a Radar Mount brand mount for my Escort detector. I too am looking for tips on removing that cover so I can access the harness. CJ Dave.

I don't know how the '25's are built, but I have heard that on SOME Expy's, removing that cover is as simple as squeezing in on one side while holding the other side firmly. This will release the "tabs" on one side, and then just tilt the other side down carefully to release the other ones...then just do the reverse by lining up one side, pushing up on it, and then line up the remaining side & push upwards gently to re-engage the tabs..

I’m just talking about cutting or drilling the dash or whatever in a nasty manner.
