I've been really disappointed in my 2019

I bought an '18 with 45,000 miles on the clock 7 months ago. The selling dealer had the phasers replaced before they let me take it. I replaced the APIM myself with one off EBAY that the seller programmed to my expedition, so far no problems. It wasn't real expensive for the APIM. Has been a great vehicle so far. It came with an extended warranty (not Ford).

My 2019 XLT 4WD has 106k miles and it has been pretty much reliable. I bought it brand new at 3 miles and it got oil change with synthetic oil every 5k miles. It had cam phasers replacement, valve cover gasket fix, new starter under ESP warranty. I replaced new battery, new thermostat, new spark plugs, rotors and pads, new transmission fluid, filter, new brake fluids, new Bilstein struts. TPMS sensors start to go out one by one few days ago. I'm happy with this truck comparing to 2017 Acura MDX with constant recalls.

I think about having a vehicle that sat in dealer service for 2 months out of the first 18 due to trans, phasers, and some "regular" maintenance, and it has been really difficult to find a good alternative that doesn't have its own problems/recalls/etc. My brother had been mulling over just getting an older surburban (like 2003-2008ish) that wasn't falling apart, getting it fixed/reburbished/upgraded where needed. Yeah, you're not getting a warranty per se but you're also not spending $15k+ just for two known service procedures on top of whatever else you have to spend.

Very interesting thread. I just bought a 2021 Limited Stealth edition in Sept with just under 7k miles on it. This is my first Ford, so.... very curious what my experience will be. I did buy a 100k 8 year ESP, just in case, because I had read/heard mainly about the cam phaser issue. I do my own oil changes at 5k miles has always been my standard so that will not be an issue.

My plan for the vehicle is about 2 long Road trips per year for the next 5 years or so. No towing or off roading planned, just road trips with 2 other adults and a dog. Then I would decide if I want to keep a larger vehicle like this or not. Have not had a full size vehicle since about 1980!! (K-10 Chevy Cheyenne 4x4). I did an 1,100 mile trip 2 weeks ago (9k on vehicle now) and have not driven the vehicle since (is on a battery tender). I don't plan to use it as a daily driver, much, unless the wife or I both need to be gone somewhere at the same time, we will share our other car for the local errand, grocery runs. I will get it out a couple times a month though "just because", and I do enjoy driving it. Being a big guy that has had midsize cars and SUVs for the last 35+ years, I realize how much I miss a real full size vehicle!
