I was looking at getting a K&N Oil filter but wondering if it is a waste of money or worth it. Anyone know anything about them?

Stick with Motorcraft. I'm pretty sure the K&N is made by Champion labs, which makes Purolator, which makes the Motorcraft one. If you look at the filters, a lot of the "good" ones will look like the Motorcraft one. Granted, the K&N one does have that nut which would make it easier to replace.

Don't get Fram.

i agree walnuts on the air filter but as far as i know, you cant just rinse out an oil filter. maybe you can and im just not up to date.
i also agree with elvato, i wish all oil filters had that nut on there to make it easier to replace. my last oil change i went synthetic....

K&N has a recharge kit... a spray that u put on it and let it soak into the filter then rinse with low pressure cool water, and then let it air dry only... then spray on new oil.... just did mine last week

Just got back from Autozone with a fresh k&n recharge kit. My filter
is an AFE but works the same. I've cleaned them with soapy water and rinse
in a pinch but the cleaner just works the best. Also ... as I stated in another
thread on this subject - careful with the re-oiling. Newbs will usually put way
too much on. Start at the top and do a "barber pole" pattern around the filter then let it sit and it will spread.

K&N air filter - cleanable and reusable
K&N oil filter - non-resuable, easy to take off

The guys on the Ducati Monter forum are pretty much split between the K&N and the stock Ducati oil filters. These guys are pretty fanatical about maintenance and no one has ever said anything bad about the K&N filters.

Also remember that there are a lot of companies that make products for other companies. In this case the actual manufacturer makes the filters to K&N's specifications, which may be much higher than the specifications that they use to make products under their own label. ALCOA makes the wheels for Lamborghini, and you can believe that they are held to a much tighter tolerance than the ALCOA wheels that you may have on your truck.

K&n

I changed my 'ole 97 to a K&N. Never noticed any difference. Some vehicles with the MAF sensor really close to air filter housing can get oil contamination from that type of filter if you get a little over zealous in your application of the oil after cleaning the filter. I never had a problem. Just didn't think it was money well spent on an otherwise stock system.

I know this post is kind of old but I agree with what has pretty much already been said. I use K&N on my street bike because it is much easier to get off with the nut on the end. Oil is also a bigger factor on a bike because it is used for the clutch unless the clutch is hydraulic so you want the best feeling you can get. I did just get one yesterday for my expo because it was at the store and convenient. but for the price I don't think it will make any difference. It should be easy enough to get the oil filter on your expo and you probably don't need a wrench for it. K&N is a good company and I have always been happy with their products, but for the oil filter...your going to toss it out in a couple months/miles anyway you can buy 2 or 3 regular ones for the price of the K&N.
