No fob / remote came with the truck :nono: Called a locksmith today and he says I should be able to pick up a universal one at pretty much any auto body store for around $20.00, go to a ford dealership and they'll program it for me free of charge. Went to four auto body stores today and all of them said they would have to order one from the OEM for close to $100.00  and that they would program it over the phone. WTF??

I dont know about the newer Gen expys... but on mine as long as the vehicle has keyless entry factory I can program a fob by turning the key to the "run" position (not starting vehicle) then off... 3 times and all the door locks cycle up and down and then press a button on the fob and it is programmed. I know with the PATs key you need to have 2 programmed keys to program a 3rd or more... but not 100% on the fob... I believe if you would have the option of keyless entry you could buy a fob and simply program it... check in your owners manual

Honestly, don't bother... Just get an alarm installed since you just put some nice wheels on and plan on doing a stereo.

I think that needing 2 to program 1 is a myth... On one of my mustangs, I only had 1 key and ordered to and was able to program them with no problems..

I do have to agree with FtLaudBlkGT...if you have thought about a alarm system spend a couple of bucks more for one with the keyless entry feature... I dont have a alarm but it is on my wish list along with remote start...

but if you have a friend or someone with a ford that has a key fob see if you can borrow it... they are very easy to be programmed... basically key on-off 3x... and if it works for your expy... get on ebay and order a keyfob... then you can reprogram the remote for the original owners car following the steps...

but check to see if your expy responds to the key on off.... then if that works try to find a fob. Sometimes junkyards even have the fobs available as well... my keyless entry "brain" PATS System is out of my parents taurus that they traded in during cash for clunkers... so I have a 4 button fob when my expy was supposed to have 3... wish the hatch button would work on my expy....

I haven't justified the remote start yet, but laziness is slowly convincing me to do it.. Hahahaha

i only want it for the winter.... sucks walking out in -20 deg weather to start the expy... got so cold one night up here that both my cars, and all of my neighbors cars would not start... think it was like -45 without windchill... had to use a blanket and space heater to heat up the motor to get it to fire... remote start wouldn't have helped but at least on cold days I can get it warm from inside my house... or hunting can start the expy while I am walking out of the woods... or scare the deer away from it and towards my stand.... :rotflmao:

The newer Expys (and everything with PATS II) need 2 keys to program them (as mentioned in the manual).

I do believe the older PATS I system on the older Fords allowed you to only need 1 key.

Either way, the programming instructions are in your manual. Make sure to read them through first before attempting since you have a few seconds between steps before the system times out.

I got my key fob on ebay for 14.95 shipped. It was OEM :)

where you get it installed? I'm looking at about $150.00 in labor for any of these systems to get installed!!

Remote start in the south seems like a waste - but for those of us that experience winter - they are nice - I plan on putting on in the work commuter car this year now that I have to pick up both kids and the daycare is like a 3 minute drive from my work parking lot - the car doesn't even have time to warm up - nothing worse that cold scream kids, oh ya and wife... I did't have one for my old Astro van I had - same sort of programming thing - cycle the key - pick on up from a junk yard and programmed it in 5 minutes total - including finding the instructions online

A/C in the south is to have a cool car...when its easily 140+ in the car...you want a remote start...i'm looking at the Viper 5902 for my wife's car and the ford gold remote system for the truck...thought about the 5902 for the truck too...same price...the ford alarm/remote start will give me a factory looking fob vs having another key mad for the viper since its a hide-a-key system...so i was told...

i had the factory remote start in my 05 Ranger. the one for the Ranger is the same as the Ex. I loved it, and with the horn going off as well as the siren if the alarm was activated, that thing would wake the dead. you can get the remote start with or without the alarm feature. when it said it was good for 500 feet, it meant it. more like 700 feet. :pepper:
